With a ten-run 8th, Rochester turned a 3-1 nailbiter into 13-1 laugher. Riley Adams singled and hit a grand slam in the 8th inning alone and collected four hits total, scoring twice and driving in six. Trey Lipscomb pushed his hit streak to nine with two singles and homer with three runs scored and two plated. Jared Simpson began the parade of relievers with two scoreless while Kyle Nicolas was the pitcher of record when the Red Wings took the lead. ESPN has learned that qualified him for the win. Roster moves: LHP Jackson Kent added to 40-man roster, recalled to Washington.

The Senators put up crooked numbers three times in the first five innings as they grounded the Flying Squirrels, 6-2. Holden Powell pitched the first and gave up a hit, walked none, and struck out one. Josh Randall turned in five innings of two-run relief on five hits, three walks, and four K’s. Devin Fitz-Gerald returned to the lineup and had two singles and two runs scored while Nick Mitchell singled, doubled, drove in two, and stole his 22nd base to lead the Harrisburg offense.

Harrisburg built a 3-0 lead until the bullpen gave up three to tie. The two teams traded runs into the 11th when the Senators ran out of luck to lose, 7-6. Josh Hartle pitched into the 7th and left with one out and a runner on second, the second of two hits given up along with three walks and two whiffs. Luke Young let that runner in along with two of his own for the blown save. Thomas Schultz let in the free runner twice on outs to lose for the fifth time. Ethan Petry singled twice, doubled once, and drove in two while Devin Ortiz singled and drew one of ten walks issued by the Flying Squirrels, which helped the Sens score six run on five hits. Roster moves: C Kevin Bazzell promoted from Wilmington.

Wilmington cobbled together six runs with four extra-base hits but didn’t have the pitching to back it up in a 9-6 loss to Hudson Valley. Baron Stuart opened the game with an unearned run let in on a hit and two walks over an inning and 2/3rds. After the next two relievers dug a 5-2 hole, Mike Tepper settled things down with four and 2/3rds innings of one-run relief. Brady Hill retired two of seven batters faced in the 8th, which saw the Renegades turn a 6-5 deficit into the eventual final score. Ronny Cruz doubled, homered, scored thrice, and drove in three while Eli Willits doubled, walked, scored twice, went 3-for-4 on steals to lead the Blue Rocks offense. Roster moves: C Caleb Farmer demoted from Harrisburg.
Fayetteville 5 Fredericksburg 4 – COMP.

Hunter Hines hit a three-run HR in the top of the 6th to give the FredNats a 4-1 lead. That was too small a lead for the ex-FCL relievers to hold as Kai Peterson let in two runs in the 8th to tie (and earn the blown save) and Cesar Rojas gave up the gamewinner on a two-out single to take the loss. Hines also had a walk and an RBI single while Gavin Fien singled, doubled, and scored a run. The rest of the lineup went 2-for-24 with four walks and nine whiffs.

Fredericksburg continued its reversion to the second-half mean with a 4-0 shutout by Fayetteville. Marlon De La Cruz gave up all four ‘Peckers runs on six hits (one HR) and a walk over four innings. He struck out seven. Luke Johnson followed with two scoreless but it was for naught as the FredNats were held to singles by Gavin Fien and Juan Cruz and a double by Hunter Hines.

How did Elijah RISE to the occasion to score 4 runs Luke

I can’t help but hope for some miraculous turn around for Elijah Green, and the past month or two has sprung a tiny seed of hope. But there’s still so many red flags in this recent hot streak, where hes hit an excellent .319/.402/.580
1. He has a .500 BABIP over that stretch (and somehow .476 over the past 2 months!)
2. His strikeout rate remains terrifyingly high at 37.8%, which is quite possibly the best spell of his entire career. It’s a BIG improvement on the 50+% rate earlier in the year, but if this is his best case scenario, that’s worrying.
It’s definitely fun to see, and maybe just a spell of good (albeit wildly lucky) play is what Green needs to get out of his head and play a bit more freely. I definitely didn’t expect a promotion, and was even less expecting that Green would play well post-promotion, so I hope it’ll continue!
Rooting hard for Elijah. His tools are crazy. He’s 6-3 225, and has 32 steals (only 5 CS) with ridiculous power (when he makes contact) and is a legit defensive CF. His swing miss game will always be a problem, but his other skills are so loud, that a mid 30s K rate probably means a decent MLB career. Currently, the MLB regular with the highest K rate is Kyle Schwarber at 34%. Schwarber is playable because he will hit 40 HRs every year. Just not sure Green to get to 34%.
Green has definitely improved, but he still has far to go to be a legit MLB prospect. Don’t think that the Nats put Green on the 40 man roster because I doubt another MLB team will take a chance on him, but it only takes one team to fall in love with his tools.
FWIW, would think that Green will be a strong AZ Fall League candidate this October.

It would be so great if Fitz-Gerald and Cruz could get a solid streak going before the end of the season. Since their early promotions, it’s been a season to forget.
I also hope a few of the bats in Rochester get a shot in DC before the season ends.
Lastly, does anyone know the logic behind who and when this year’s draftees get assigned? Of the college bats, so far it’s been, Hacopian (1st rd), Dugger (9th) and Ortiz (18), while our 2nd, 5th, 10th and 19th rounders remain MIA. What’s the logic of giving Ortiz playing time ahead of Daniel Cuvet, when they can play the same position (3B)?
only speculation but maybe they’re working on something in WPB. I’m beyond questioning this group when it comes to developing their hitters.

I know we want the draft class to play for a Nats affliates because we can follow the stats, but those that aren’t signed are playing in games at the Nats Spring Training facility. There was video of Hacopian playing in West Palm before he was assigned to Wilmington. The idea that drafted players who haven’t been assigned aren’t playing games everyday is wrong.
Young blew the save by giving up a game tying 3 run HR with 2 strikes and 2 outs in the 7th inning. Green was able to score 4 runs because in a couple extra innings he made the 3rd out so he was the runner placed on 2nd next inning and then scored.
Lipscome, and Morales in AAA – are either/both Rule 5 eligible at the end of the season, or do we keep them for another year without adding to the 40-man?
