Rochester 7 Syracuse 5
• Alvarez 4⅔ IP, 3H, 3R, 3ER, 3BB, 8K
• Yean (BS, 2; W, 2-1) 1⅔ IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K, 3-1 IR-S
• Tolman (SV, 1) 1IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 2K
• Barrera 2-3, 2RBI
• Lipscomb 1-3, R, BB, HR, 2RBI
• Franklin 1-4, R, BB, HR, RBI
Rochester went deep twice in the 6th to turn a 3-0 deficit into a 5-3 lead, only to lose it in the 7th. Back-to-back walks and a sacrifice put two runners in scoring position for Tres Barrera, who drove them both in for the winning margin, 7-5. Andrew Alvarez matched Mets phenom Jonah Tong K-for-K (eight total) but walked three and gave up three runs over four and 2/3rds. Eddie Yean retired all five batters he faced but got the blown save by letting in the tying run on a sac fly and the “W” as the pitcher of record. Erik Tolman worked around a walk in the 9th to earn the save. Trey Lipscomb and Christian “Hey It’s” Franklin both walked and homered to power the Red Wings offense. Roster moves: RHP Luke Young promoted from Harrisburg.
Erie 9 Harrisburg 1
• Luckham (L, 2-2) 5IP, 12H, 8R, 8ER, 1BB, 5K, HR, WP
• Huff 2IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• King 1-2
• M. Romero 1-3, BB, 2B
No such Luckham for Kyle as Seawolves plundered the 26-y.o. journeyman for eight runs on 12 hits in a 9-1 smackdown that extended the Sens’ skid to four games. An error and a passed ball “helped” Harrisburg avoid the shutout as they pestered Erie pitchers for two singles (Seaver King, Elijah Nunez) and a double (Max Romero, Jr.) while drawing four walks.
Wilmington 6 Hub City 3
• Lyon 4IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB, 3K
• Bruni (W, 2-1) 3⅔ IP, 4H, 3R, 3ER, 1BB, 2K
• Cranz (SV, 1) 1⅓ IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K, 1-0 IR-S
• Fitz-Gerald 3-5, R, HR(5), RBI, E
• White 3-5, R, 2B, RBI
• Hines 2-3, BB, 2B, RBI
Hub City erased a 3-0 deficit with a three-run 6th but Wilmington put up two in the 8th and one on the 9th to double ’em up, 6-3. Isaac Lyon blanked the ‘Burgers for four innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out three. Frank Bruni gave up all three Hub City runs but got the win nevertheless. Robert Cranz retired all four batter he faced to get the save. Devin Fitz-Gerald and T.J. White combined to go 6-for-10 with two runs, two RBI, a homer (Fitz-Gerald) and a double (White) while Hunter Hines reached base four times with a double, hit-by-pitch, single, and a walk to lead the Blue Rocks offense.
Fredericksburg 11 Hill City 5
• Portorreal 3⅔ IP, 3H, 1R, 1ER, 0BB, 3K
• Rojas (W, 2-2) 2IP, 1H, 1R, 1ER, 2BB, 4K
• Walsh 3-5, 2R, HR(5), 5RBI, 2K
• Cabrera 2-3, R, BB, 2B, SF, 2RBI
• Williams 2-3, 2R, 2B, RBI
• James 2-4, 2R, BB, RBI, 2K
The Howlers tied it a 4-4 with a three-run 7th and took the lead in the 8th, 5-4. The FredNats had the last laugh with a seven-run 9th for an 11-5 excorc…er, win. Leuris Portorreal went the first three and 2/3rds and gave up a run on three hits, no walks, and three whiffs. Cesar Rojas saw his “L” turn to a “W” as he closed out the 9th without another run let in. Jacob Walsh hit a grand slam for his fifth big fly of ’26 and finished with five RBI on three hits while Yeremy Cabrera and Jordan Williams both went 2-for-3 with a double to power the Fredericksburg offense.
FCL Nationals 1 FCL Marlins 0
• Weaver 1⅓ IP, 2H, 0R, 1BB, 0K
• Ju. Lopez (W, 1-0) 1⅔ IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 1K
• J. Robles (SV, 1) 1⅔ IP, 0H, 0R, 2BB, 1K
• B. Martinez 0-1, R, BB, SB
• Cortesia 1-2, BB
Five FCL Nationals pitchers combined to shut out the FCL Marlins, 1-0 on four hits. Newcomer Jacob Weaver put on three baserunners in the space of seven batters but kept the F-Marlins off the boad. Juan Lopez walked one and struck out one over an inning and 2/3rds to get the win. Jean Robles walked two with two out in the 6th but closed out the game to earn the save. Browm Martinez walked, stole second, took third on a 5-2 putout, and scored on a passed ball for the lone F-Nats run. Roster moves: RHP Camilo Sanchez assigned from Fredericksburg for MiLB rehab.
Seaver King was pinch hit for mid game. I don’t recall a play where he got hurt so I’m not sure of the reason. Hopefully, he’s in the lineup tonight.
Talk about rehab Saturday on the Conplex ( it’s not that complex , folks : see ball hit ball .. Garrett Morris voice )
Enquiring minds need to know how Browm Martinez got his first name ?
Fredericksburg continues to mash, but their defensive placement is a bit of a mess. Willits is cemented at SS, but beyond forcing Dickerson, Ramirez and James off SS, it has further knock on effects. Dickerson played CF, which forced Yeremy Cabrera to DH. It’s not the end of the world, but a promotion or two could ease the problem.
Yeremy Cabrera, for example, has somehow picked up another gear. After a fabulous April, he’s now hitting .455/.517/.955 in May. He also spent all of 2025 and part of 2024 in A ball, so a promotion at this point isn’t even aggressive, it’s overdue.
Jacob Walsh isn’t playing a premium position, but as a 23 year old, 4 year senior draft pick last season, he should have a more aggressive promotion schedule than others. He’s doing excellently so far, batting .256/.420/.538 so far. He’ll fit right in in Wilmington, especially if his draft-classmate, Ethan Petry, gets a well-deserved promotion to Harrisburg.
Lastly, does anyone know what the story behind Jordan Williams is? He was an UDFA from Tampa, graduating at age 25 (he turns 26 next month). That’s insane, even for a 5th year senior, and as best I can tell he was somehow a 6(?!?) year senior, spending 3 (!) years in JUCO before playing 2 years at FSU then a 6th season at Tampa. I don’t understand how any of that is possible, but even then he was rather late to the ball, starting JUCO at age 20! I’m pleased he’s found his way to pro baseball after quite an Odyssesian journey, and he’s playing very well at that! But he’s also older than CJ Abrams, who’s in his 5th MLB season. So here’s to hoping Williams get a chance to climb the affiliate ladder, and quick.
