Eriq Swan threw 31 pitches in the 1st, giving up three runs on two hits and two walks. Holden Powell (3IP) and Chance Huff (2IP) combined for five scoreless before Valentin Linarez nearly gave the game away with five runs allowed in the space of seven batters in the 7th. Cayden Wallace began his defense of his POTW award with two doubles, a triple, and two RBI while Seaver King drove in five and scored three runs while going 3-for-4 with two doubles and a walk to power the Harrisburg offense.

The FredNats continued their dominance (61-27 since 2022) over Delmarva, eviscerating the Shorebirds throwers for 21 runs on 21 hits, including five HR, six doubles, two triples. Fredericksburg starter Carson Fischer didn’t make it out of the 4th as he was charged with three runs on six hits and a walk over three and 2/3rds. Grant Manning finished the 4th and put up goose eggs in the 5th and 6th innings to get the win. Sir Jamison Jones drove in six and racked up 14 total bases on a double and three HRs. Yeremy Cabrera and Luke Dickerson also went deep. The FredNats also stole 11 bases. No word on whether any lunch money was taken.
Wow. What an interesting slate of games!
I have to take Fburg first. It’s remarkable to score 21 runs, but it’s even more remarkable that the FNats should’ve scored 30! They had 21 hits, of which incredibly 13 were for extra bases. But there’s more. They accumulated 14 walks too (35 baserunners!). But there’s more. They stole 11 bases in the process, essentially turning 11 of those walks into extra base hits. So, again, it’s pretty crazy that they “only” scored 21!
Sir Jamison Jones had a monster performance, as Luke has already pointed out (14 total bases!), but Luke Dickerson and Yeremy Cabrera get special shoutouts too. Dickerson was a 2B shy of hitting for the cycle, and Cabrera got on base 4 times (though does a HR count as “getting on base”? and turned the single and 2BB into extra bases by nabbing three SBs). I’m also so impressed with Nick Peoples so far. He was hitting under the Mendoza Line across his career before this season, and he’s presently hitting .391 through 7 games. Hope he can keep this up and resurrect his career.
In Wilmington, Ethan Petry continues to mash. He’s hitting .357 (and a .538 OBP!). Given his pedigree and advanced development status, I think he won’t be long for Harrisburg, though that will be complicated by Boissiere and Brown’s breakouts, occupying 1B.
Speaking of Harrisburg, Wallace continues his tear post-POTW, with 3 more XBH to his name to bring him to 8 on the season (10 games). He’d previously had 35 XBH total in 132 previous games in Harrisburg. This is now his 3rd season in Hburg. I think he’ll also likely get sent north soon.
In other less good news, Caleb Lomavita just notched his 4th error of the young season, continuing a very worrying trend from 2025. It was well commented on how Lomavita’s 21 errors in 81 games was potentially historic pace, especially for a catcher. But Lomavita has upped the ante, racking up 4 errors in only 7 games so far this year. These are remarkably bad rates, given how few opportunities catchers get to actually commit errors.
Any comment on Petry’s 1B defense?
after your question last week I tried to search thru the games and found a few examples of good scoops on low throws. I’m going to catch a couple of games when the club is in Frederick next week. stay tuned.
Thanks much! As you well know, the cupboard is pretty bare at 1B and I’m really curious to see if Petry can be at least average there.
The offensive explosions both in DC and in the minors (especially in the ‘Burgs) has been fun and will be interesting to see if it lasts, but another thing that’s been a noticeable change from the previous regime is our activity on the basepaths.
Luke’s already commented on the 11 SB by Fburg, to bring them into 2nd most SBs in the Carolina League. Wilmington’s 25 SB is the most in the Sally League, Harrisburg’s 21 SB is 2nd most in the Eastern League, though Rochester’s 18 is only 14th most. But it was the exact opposite last season. Rochester did have the 4th most SB, but Harrisburg (5th fewest), Wilmington (fewest) and Fredericksburg (4th fewest) were VERY conservative on the base paths.
the F-burg box is hilarious. Leadoff hitter Willits had 7 plate appearances; 2 hits and 4 walks. He only registered one SB amongst these multiple times on base, but this has to help his season OBP.
It’s refreshing to not only see Senators batters get on base, but to get driven in as well. Every year it seems we get guys on base and that’s where they stay.
SJJ earned his title with that performance last night, for sure! I hope his team mates had some fun with that after the game…..
Going into last night’s game, Sir Jamison Jones had 10 extra base hits in 146 career professional plate appearance. Last night, he had four including 3 HRs. Catchers have lagged behind others in offensive improvement so far, but maybe SJJ can turn that around.
