Rochester Red Wings – 8-7, 4th. I.L. East, 2GB
After a 4-2 road trip, the Red Wings return home to face the Bisons for six including matinees tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday. Rochester remains dead last in the I.L. with 90 runs allowed for a 6.00 ERA. Roster moves: RHPs Orlando Ribalta, Jackson Rutledge recalled to Washington.
Harrisburg Senators – 7-2, 2nd, E.L. Southwest, 1GB
Harrisburg won its series with Akron, 4-2, but slipped into second place as Richmond is riding an eight-game win streak. Meanwhile, Cayden Wallace became the second Nationals farmhand to take home Player of the Week honors with a .375/.467/.792 line last week, including three HR, five RBI, and two SB. This week, the Senators play the Seawolves in Erie for four night games and two weekend day games.
Wilmington Blue Rocks – 6-2, 2nd, Sally Lg. North, ½ GB
The Blue Rocks have quietly risen to second place in the Sally Lg. North after taking five of six from the Renegades. Might be the kind of thing to put on your website, no? Stay tuned for the update on April 31. This week Hub City visits Wilmington for six, including a day game on Sunday afternoon.
Fredericksburg Nationals – 5-4, 3rd, C.L. North, 2GB
Fredericksburg returns to the what the kids call Fred Vegas (no cap) after dropping four of six to Hill City, the last three consecutively. This week, the Shorebirds come to town for six, which includes the first of three 11:05 invasions of schoolkids Education Days tomorrow morning.
Zuckerman reporting that Rutledge is heading back to NY with Parker taking his place.
Say what you will about Rutledge but you have to feel bad for the kid after this latest debacle.
Parker has already been down long enough to lose the service year, right?
If he pitches well enough to stick, and he ends up with 2.170 or something, I really hope he files a grievance.
I mean, Parker has not been great and I’d have been on board with a lot of FA signings that bumped him to SP6. I could also see the case for giving Alvarez first shot. (But of course he needs another month before his year ticks over, so no chance of that.)
But Parker was worth more fWAR than Mikolas in both 2024 and 2025 (and so far in 2026 for that matter). Parker was also the more effective of the two during ST. It’s just anti-labor bullshit.
I feel bad for him, sure, but I hope he invested his 3+M signing bonus wisely. At what point do you give up on him and spend coaching time on someone with more of a chance to contribute to the big club?
Now that Rizzo is no longer around to desperately try to extract value (any value!) from his past dozen failed 1st round picks, I don’t really understand what’s kept Rutledge around. He has a 5.72 ERA, 5.54 FIP, and 5.62 BB/9. No, not in the majors, those are his stats across parts of four seasons in AAA. He’s never been particularly good – at any level – besides a tantalizing cameo in 2019, but his draft position seems to have overridden that fact.
Ribalta, on the other hand, has actually been a lot better in the same time period in AAA (3.38 ERA, 4.37 FIP, though still a worrying 5.15 BB/9, but better other stats, like more Ks, fewer HR allowed, etc.), so I’m hoping this will be the time it finally clicks. But as a 12th rounder, his leash won’t be nearly as long.
