AFL Update: Sept. 27, 2019
Rain cancelled four of the five games in the AFL yesterday, including the matchup between the 1st-place Mesa Solar Sox and the 1st-place Surprise Saguaros.
Instead, the Saguaros will remain in Peoria for the weekend, hosting the Scorpions tonight and tomorrow night, and the Javelinas on Sunday night. It’s not your imagination: Just one of their games has been away from Peoria Sports Complex.
While it’s tempting to recap how the Nats are doing statistically, the samples sizes are still microscopic. But I suspect many of you just can’t help yourself, so… Luis Garcia (pictured) is second in PA’s and 4th in TB’s while Jacob Condra-Bogan is tied for the league lead with saves and Andrew Lead is third in IP and tied for second in K’s.
Read yesterday that AFL is trying out something new this season, the auto strike zone and ‘robo’ umps, at the Salt River games. So would like to hear feedback from folks on how they think this is going. I asked Lee M and he feels ok about it, but only saw one game at SR. Another person felt it slowed down the game a little and causes base runners to hesitate waiting to see if the batter is walked or struck out when trying to steal bases. Anyone else with thoughts? We go out there late in Oct so may only see 1 or 2 games with this, if any.
Garcia grew 2 inches last year, I wonder if he is still growing. We heard last year that he had grown to 6′ even.
