AFL Update: Nov. 18, 2021
Jake Means’ two-run HR in the 7th was all Surprise could manage in a 5-2 loss to Peoria – the eighth in the stretch of the Sagauros’ last 13 games.
Three Washington players were in the starting lineup, and one pitched in relief:
- Jackson Cluff struck out in each of his first three ABs before leading off the 8th with the sixth and final hit for Surprise. He was kept busy on defense with four putouts and four assists, including the pivot of a 4-6-3 DP.
- Drew Millas went hitless again to exit off the Interstate (.196) but collected two more walks to bring his fall total to 12 in 15G. He had five putouts on defense, including a play at the plate, and threw out one of two basestealers.
- Israel Pineda was the DH but was 0-for-3 with a walk and two whiffs.
- Todd Peterson worked around a walk in the 9th to put up a goose egg on 12 pitches, eight for strikes.
The two teams rematch this afternoon at the same time, the same venue. For those wondering, we have no idea what the health or status of Cole Henry is. Lee’s pic above was not taken yesterday.
That’s 2 on the MIA list, both Cole Henry and Donovan Casey are nowhere tobe found. At least Henry was dressed for the All Star game.
It was perfectly normal that Henry didn’t pitch in the ASG, since he threw four days earlier, and has been usually given 5-6 days between starts. Happens with MLB pitchers in the ASG all the time.
Why he hasn’t thrown in the 3 games since is a bit more concerning, but I’ll reserve judgement until they cycle all the way through the rotation.
Casey’s absence, however, is much weirder. His last game came even longer ago than Henry’s last start, and OFs don’t need 5 days of rest…
Casey might be sit down with a long summer past ?
(99% sure you meant “sit” so I fixed it 😉
Or they’ve made up their minds about tomorrow’s decision
Drew Millas is looking exactly as the scouting reports predicted. Good defence, but not much of a bat.
Milas and Pineda are at the same level of development but Pineda is about 2 years younger.
I think Pineda is getting a lot more starts at DH for a reason…
Pineda has displayed power Millas never has (even going back to college). But Millas’ glove appears to be significantly better than Pineda’s. In the end, I wonder if that balances out to a similar final product.
Wheels have totally fallen off the previously red-hot Saguaros.
