Catching Up on Transactions
The horses finally made it through the last pass and arrived at the offices of Baseball America in the Old North State, delivering the edicts from New Amst…er, York on the bonding and de-bonding of the necessary evils, a.k.a. players. It’s only been eight weeks since the last missive.
The Nationals of Washington signed the following free agents:
- RHPs Bryan Dobzanski, Javy Guerra, Jefry Rodriguez
- LHPs Luis Avilan, Alberto Baldonado
- SS’s Ali Castillo, Osvalso Duarte
- OF Kevin Moreno
- C Welington Castillo
Most of these players are candidates for either a release at the end of spring training or a trip to Rochester or Harrisburg, possibly even this summer. The exception is young Kevin Moreno, for whom there is little to be found aside from his stats and a few mentions in passing at thecubreporter.com.
All kidding aside, the snark you may infer from the “this” refers to the MLBPA’s rejection of the MLB proposal to delay the start of 2021. Yes, this is a minors site, but one thing we believe that we “know” is that MLB intends to do spring training in phases. So a delay to the big boys means a delay for “our guys” and a delay to the start of the 2021 minors, which was already estimated to be sometime in May.
That link on Moreno was interesting; a now 20 year old Cuban who’s had only 107 AB’s of Rookie ball.
The system is in need of outfield depth.
Last summer inactivity for so many especially
Outfield prospects did not help the incubation process for the youngsters .
Rizzo is loyal to Baby Shark
Parra will always be a folk hero in this town. He must have decided he likes Rochester better than Japan, as his days of playing in MLB are over.
Hey, Rochester is a nice place.
AKA – aaa player / coach / cheerleader
Interesting to see a former Nats 40 th round drafted unsigned pitcher Shaun Anderson hey traded by Giants for a bench bat who is a Terappin alum
Just in case baseball plays in High A ball in 2021:
FRED?
Outfield : Canning , Rhinesmith , J . DeLaRosa , Connell , Wilson (if not bumped to AA) C. Sanfler ? Jeremy Ydens
Infield , Lara , Cluff , J Sanchez , Antuna ( if not bumped to AA), Marincanz , Cole Dailey ?
Mendoza , J Arrutta
Catchers Dunlop and several choices from a legion of backstops
Thoughts and prayers

Brass will have to push the envelope with some guys just to fill roster even if they hit like that other Mendosa .. Mario of the bleak BA line
You’re outdated here; Wilmington is High A this year and Fredericksburg is Low A.
Still have no idea who is going where in 2021.
True true so many guys signed to minor league pacts with spring invite with release clauses
As a 31-year-old career minor leaguer with merely OK numbers at Triple-A, it’s unlikely that Ali Castillo amounts to much in the Nats organization, but it’s worth noting that he primarily played third base in 2019 and is listed as a third baseman on MiLB.com. More depth at a position where it increasingly looks like our starter will be a guy with a .556 OPS last season.
Rizzo likes guys who pass thru Chicago
Luis Alexander Basabe??
Old friend David Freitas has signed to play in Korea. He had a whopping 1,000 AB’s in AAA over the years. He was way back when traded to the A’s for Kurt Suzuki’s first go round with the Nats.
Good luck to him.
