The Grizzlies went deep three times to neutralize the Isotopes, 6-5 for their straight win. Scott Copeland won his sixth game with another seven innings of two-run ball on eight hits (one HR) and a walk while fanning five. Josh Lucas misunderstood “you could be an 8th-inning guy for the big club” as he coughed up two runs on a homer in the 8th while Logan Ondrusek wasted his opportunity to match him by issuing just a solo HR and was rewarded with his first save. Raudy Read smacked #20, reached base four times, and drove in three while Brandon Snyder hit #32 and plated two as Fresno squeezed six runs out of eight hits and six walks.

Kyle McGowin struck out 11 for the third time in his career in a 4-1 Harrisburg win over Altoona. The 27-y.o. kept the Curve on the straight and narrow (as he retired 21 of 25 batters faced on 92 pitches with no walks and three hits for his first AA win of the year. Jacob Condra-Bogan lost his streak nine appearances without with allowing a run with one in the 8th while Jhoantan German struck out two while setting the down in order in 9th for his first AA save. Luis Garcis singled, doubled, and scored two runs while Rhett Wiseman walked, tripled, and didn’t strike out to lead the Sens offense.

It’s probably too little, too late but the P-Nats did what they were supposed to and overran the also-ran Keys, 8-1 in the series opener. Salem and Wilmington both won to keep pace and reduce Potomac’s tragic number to two. Jackson Tetreault won for the second time since dropping down from AA^* as he let in the Frederick run on five hits and two walks while striking out two for win #4 at High-A. After some no-name (Sean Doolittle) pitched a scoreless 6th, Angel Guillen was near-perfect over the least three innings for his first Carolina Lg. save. Jack Sundberg for his first HR of the year, an Earl Weaver special with one out in the 8th, and also singled to go 2-for-5 with two runs scored while Austin Davidson hit the ball hard enough to lumber in for a double and also threaded the 3/4 gap for a single to drive in two as the P-Nats pounded out 13 hits total.

Hagerstown played small-ball and got runs in both the 8th and 9th innings to walk off Lakewood, 3-2. Tomas Alastre came up winless (not a shock) but turned in his third quality start of the month (shock) as he let in both Blue Claws runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out five. The win went to Chris “Chevy” Vann as he finished the game with three scoreless innings, issuing one free pass and five whiffs. Armond Upshaw scored the game-winner as he drew a walk to lead off the 9th and scored on a would-be sacrifice by Jackson Cluff that Blue Claws reliever threw away. An inning earlier Drew Mendoza singled to lead off the inning and reach base for the fourth time, took second on a sacrifice by Jacob Rhinesmith, and scored on Israel Pineda’s RBI single.

The Doubledays rip-sawed the Crosscutters starter for seven runs in the first two innings and held on for an 8-6 win. Todd Peterson was only slightly less ineffective as Williamsport chopped him for four runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk while setting down three on strikes. The “W” was awarded to Tyler Yankosky (2IP, 2R) instead of Davis Moore (2IP, 0R) who was the most effective reliever. “Nuke” Turner walked two and struck out one but put up two goose eggs for his second save. Junior Martina walked, singled twice, and drove in two to lead the Auburn offense, which scored eight times on just seven hits and five walks.
