Jacob Turner got the start and was lifted after loading the bases with two out in the 4th. Matt Grace got the last out and stranded all three runners but was responsible for the go-ahead run that came in on a two-run homer served up by Martin. Brian Goodwin led the Syracuse hit column with 3-for-4 game, followed by Brandon Snyder at 2-for-3.

He hit one batter, walked none and struck out four. Irving Falu, Clint Robinson, Brandon Snyder, and Matt Skole each hit solo shots to make the most of just six hits and no walks drawn by the Chiefs offense. Roster move: RHP Matt Albers selected and recalled to Washington.

Austen Williams got the win with a quality start of two runs on five hits and no walks in six innings pitched. He struck out nine. Andrew Stevenson also drove in three with a pair of singles, though he was caught stealing twice. Neftali Soto was third Senator with multiple hits in Harrisburg’s ten-hit parade.

He walked one, struck out one, and hit a batter. Blake Perkins and Nick Banks both singled twice while Jake Noll singled, doubled, and drove in a run. Roster move: LHP Jordan Mills assigned from Washington; no corresponding move yet.
The Robles kid may have a chance, eh? I’m really hoping to see more of this kind of power production from him this year.
I’ve not been an Austen Williams fan, so I need to give him some props for his strong start to his latest try at AA. Nine Ks and no walks over six innings will raise a few eyebrows.
I’ve not been on the Blake Perkins bandwagon, either, but he’s certainly off to a great start at Hags. So are Kieboom, Soto, and Noll. As an older player, I could see Noll getting a rapid promotion; I don’t expect them to rush the other three.
And sorry, but I seem to have jinxed Rhett Wiseman. It’s early, though.
Did Spin teach him a new pitch ?
Hags should play mills brothers
Music with two Mills on roster ??
Taters up and down chain this week .
April weather good on bats
KW, I was at the Harrisburg game on Sunday. Williams’ start was, I thought, mixed.
He had trouble getting his curve ball anywhere near the plate. He tended to plant it about five or six feet from the plate.
Also, while he did a good job getting first pitch strikes in his first two times through the order (racking up eight strikeouts through the first five innings), his third time through the order Williams became very hittable, giving up two runs in his final inning of work.
Lots of hot starts on offense. It’s not even worth the time noting how many of our batters are currently hitting over .400.
Pitching, however, has been iffy. But given the lack of depth throughout the system, but particularly at the upper levels, I fear it’s going to be an ongoing theme this season…
I’m curious (but too lazy to check) whether the “hitters are ahead of the pitchers” across the minors in general, or just with our teams. That definitely seems to be the case, though. There have been a few isolated good pitching performances, but the bad has far outpaced the good. Meanwhile, lots of guys are hitting, even ones like Perkins who previously haven’t hit much before.
At least Fedde was good . . .
For whatever it’s worth Fangraphs’ top 100 has 43 pitchers (43%).
Fangraphs top 20 of our farm system has 6 pitchers (30%), one of which is already in DC (Glover). And then only 4 of the 15 ‘honorable mentions’. So it’s safe the say our pitching depth is weak, and well behind other teams.
I always reserve judgement on HS draftees until about the time they hit 21 or so. With his similar skill set, Perkins could yet end up being another Andrew Stevenson.
The Dominican boys don’t like piching and generally don’t have much experience in the colder weather.
Turner to the 10 day DL. MAT returns to the Nats without an AB in Cuse.

There have been several reports here of browser quirks such as these. I have experienced them on one browser at work, but a different browser works fine on the same system. The browser that gives me problems on this site at work does fine on this site on my home computer. It’s enough to make Spike (or Luke) howl at the moon.
