Rochester Red Wings, 16-17, T6th I.L. East, 6GB
Rochester split its series with Worcester and remains a game within .500, despite a roster that has already seen 37 players log innings and/or at-bats. The pitching is now close to league average (5.27 vs. 5.07) but the offense has fallen to the 5th worst in the I.L. This week, it’s a short trip down I-90 to play the Mets for six with afternoon games on the weekend. Roster moves: LHP Cionel Pérez elected free agency.
Harrisburg Senators, 16-10, 2nd E.L. Southwest, 4GB
Kyle Luckham kept the Nats’ POTW streak going with his six and 2/3rds shutout innings with no walks and eight K’s in a no-decision on Saturday. After splitting with the RubberDucks, the Seawolves come to City Isle for six, including an 11am start tomorrow.
Wilmington Blue Rocks, 15-11, 2nd Sally Lg. North, &frac; GB
Wilmington has won seven of ten and climbed to within a 1/2 game of first place despite a -1 run differential. The Blue Rocks will be taking their show on the road for the next two weeks, beginning with six against the Spartanburgers.
Fredericksburg Nationals, 19-8, 1st C.L. North, 3GA
The FredNats took five of six last week including a near meltdown last Tuesday and walkoffs on Wednesday and Thursday. This week, it’s first place vs. second place as Fredericksburg makes another visit to Hill City for five night games and a day game on Sunday.
FCL Nationals vs. FCL Astros – PPD
Presumably, rain washed away the opener between the FCL Nationals and the FCL Astros. The makeup is scheduled for Thursday, May 14. Roster moves: IF Gavin Dugas assigned from Wilmington for MiLB rehab.
Gavin Dugas sighting!
A little surprised that the new administration has kept Dugas in the system. He’s now 26, has never played above A ball, and he’s coming off a dismal 2025 season. With tha said, good luck to Gavin and hope for a quick climb from FCS ball (although not sure where he would find ABs on the affliates above the FCL Nats).
Boss man : you are predicting like Vinnie the Greek on CBS nfl Sunday decades that Elijah will get a pink slip soon
7 HRs in May
Some other blue chip worshipped prospects don’t have that
Spencer Jones hit number 11 in SWB tonight
I wonder what the Rondole young Turks ( Dave Brubeck beat ) are thinking …
The beautiful thing about the cast at both full season affiliates is they are playing Whitey Herzog baseball !
I think Gavin D being looked at as future coach .
Max Kramick probably another Horowitz kid from Pirate chain ⛓️
Hassell didn’t play at all in the Worcester series???
I attended my first Red Wings game of the season on Sunday. Three items that seemed to stand out. First: I have no data from last year to support this but on Sunday, Red Wing batters swung at the first pitch 9 times. From the games I attended last year, it seemed that Red Wing batters never swung at the first pitch. I don’t know if that is an overall strategy change or was just a one game anomaly. Second: Andres Chaparro didn’t seem to be motivated. Maybe he wasn’t happy starting at third base but he didn’t hit the ball out of the infield the whole day. Third: there was not much mention of the injury to Abimelec Ortiz. Looks like he twisted his knee sliding into 2nd base and had to be helped off the field including significant help going down the dugout stairs.
That’s a shame about Ortiz. I was hoping it was precautionary given that the timing seemed to line up pretty well with Mead replacing Garcia in DC.
Slight addition to my first pitch comment. Red Wing batters swung and put the ball in play 9 times on the first pitch. There were 6 more times they hit a foul on the first pitch and three swing and misses on the first pitch. 35 AB’s and 18 swings at the first pitch.
The Nats organization has the 2nd best overall record in minor league baseball (and 2nd best in run differential). Behind only the Giants.
