Jordan Williams and Coy James both homered and combined for five RBI while Dashyll Tejeda reached base twince and stole his fourth base in three games since coming up from Florida.
FCL Nationals, 9-5, 2nd FCL East, 1½ GB
The FCL Nationals won five of six last week and gained two games in the standings but remain in 2nd place behind the FCL Astros. This week, it’s just four games with trips to Jupiter tomorrow (FCL Marlins) and Friday (FCL Cardinals) and home games on Wednesday (FCL Mets) and Saturday (F-Cards).
A lot of good performances from guys way too old for their level.
In Fredericksburg:
23 year old, Carson Fischer, is an UDFA who’s sporting a stellar 1.62 ERA thru 9 starts. He’s not blowing batters away (7.15 K/9), but he’s been very effective.
24 year old Julian Tonghini, our 7th round pick from last season, has great 0.79 ERA after 7 games. He was previously demoted to Fredericksburg, after having a very bad stint in Wilmington (8.44 ERA in 7 games). But he seems to have earned another shot.
25 year old, Grant Manning, has looked every bit like a guy five years older than his opposition. He’s got 38 K in only 27 IP, and a great 1.65 ERA in long relief.
Same story with 24 year old Jacob Roberts. 30 K in 18 IP. Another astute UDFA signing, but it remains to be seen if his stuff plays against more age appropriate opposition.
In Wilmington:
25 year old, Brady Hill, a cast off from the Rockies org, has been throwing well. He sports a 2.50 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 22 K in 18 relief innings.
In Harrisburg:
31 year old, Erick Mejia, continues to impress as a pitcher, with a spectacular 1.06 ERA. It might not be sustainable (1.47 WHIP and 10 BB in 17 IP), but even some regression would still be very good.
And adding Robert Cranz here, who is also age inappropriate, but in the good way. Turning 23 in 3 days, he’s about a year YOUNGER than average, but putting up great stats. He’s still yet to allow a run in 7.2 IP, and looking just as good as last season, before an injury cut it short. I think there’s an outside chance we may see Cranz feature in DC this season, and if not, next season for sure. He’s a rare reliever in the upper minors on the right side of his 20s.
If he stays healthy, Cranz will pitch on the MLB level this season; maybe soon.
Roger Craig phrase applies to Sime
Hummmmm , baby !
The only Monday of season. Where the minors play due to m
“ Remembrance Day “.
Let’s see if Lara go earn a QS today
Any news on Harmon? I know he was placed on the 7 day injured list, but it’s been way past that already.
