Buffalo got three in the 1st but the Rochester pitchers locked in and held the Bisons at bay, enabling the Red Wings to chip away and tie the game at 3-3 after 10 despite going a measly 2-for-13 with RISP. Alas, Buffalo pushed across the winning run in the 9th and Rochester had no response to lose, 4-3. Bryce Conley gave up the first three Bisons runs on five hits and a walk while striking out six to post his fourth quality start of the season. Ryan Loutos gave up the fourth run (unearned, natch) on two hits in his single inning pitched. José Tena reached base four times on a walk, two singles, and a double while C.J. Stubbs homered to lead the Red Wings offense. Roster moves: OF Andrew Pinckney placed on the 7-Day I.L.; OF Carlos De La Cruz, UT Viandel Peña reassigned from Harrisburg; RHP Erick Mejia placed on the Developmental List.

Four Senators pitchers and a rehabbing Josiah Gray combined to shut out the RubberDucks, 1-0 on five hits in an extra-inning win. Gray was feathered for four hits in the space of eight batters with an assist from Sam Brown, who threw out a runner at home plate in the 1st. Lucas Knowles got the last two outs of the 9th and pitched a scoreless 10th to get the win. Branden Boisserie broke up Akron’s no-hitter with a one-out double in the 4th. In the 10th, Max Romero Jr. got aboard on a sacrifice bunt when the RubberDucks tried to erase the free runner (Kevin Made) at third. Johnathon Thomas ladi down an even better bunt to squeeze in Made to win the game. Roster moves: C Caleb Farmer activated from Developmental List.
Bennett with five perfect innings, 45 pitches and 38 strikes. pulled no doubt due to innings management in view of his AFL work to come. his fastball was sharp and the contact was not very loud. start scouting apartments in Rochester my boy.
today the Ducks get Clemmey, I hope he was paying attention to Jake’s effort. change speeds and throw strikes.
Gray would have given up a run except that the baserunner fell down rounding 3rd and couldn’t go back because there was already another Akron runner there. The suicide squeeze in the 10th was executed to perfection.
How did Gray look?
I was there last night, too. I thought Gray looked a bit Ehh. His first inning was on the rough side.
Right now it’s just good news that Gray is healthy enough to be on the mound. He’s got six months until it really matters.
Age may work against Bennett in the prospect gurus’ minds, but before injury, there was thought that he could be a #3 starter in the majors, and he’s beginning to look like that again. He may just be 26-27 before that happens.
I expect we’ll see him in DC next season right after the trade deadline, if not sooner. he has command of all his pitches now and if he can improve on the slider and changeup between now and then he may reach that #3 starter slot.
I have been impressed with Glasser in field. Last night he made a throw from moderately deep left field to home on the fly holding the runner on third. On Tuesday he caught a pop fly behind 3rd along the foul line starting from deep straight-away left field. The next batter hits a deep fly to the wall. They didn’t show a replay but to me it looked like he got his glove above the yellow line and even though it dropped in play for double, he robbed the home run. He adds to the surplus of outfielders but may make it easier for a trade this winter.
