After a 42-minute rain delay, Carlos De La Cruz connected for the second of his two doubles with one out in the 8th but made it no further as Cayden Wallace popped up and Max Romero Jr. struck out. Susana has really flipped a switch, and tapped into something extra. He’s been good previously, but rarely elite. Could it be possible that that elbow strain made him better?! Because ever since he missed 2 months, he’s come back a different player. His control, his weakness, has been fabulous, walking only 8 batters in 23.2 IP (3.1/9IP vs a career of 4.7). He’s always been good at limiting contact, but he’s only allowed 13 H (the HR he allowed against #1 prospect McGonigal was his first allowed since returning), but most eye-catchingly, he’s struck out 43 batters in 23.2 IP (16.7/9IP!!!). It’s really nice that Susana has stepped up, because Sykora’s injury was a massive gut punch to the short term future of the Nats, and at the time it looked like Susana was headed down the same path. 2 weeks later, Susana reeemerged from witness protection, and has been insanely dominant since.
Congrats to Henseler for his promotion to Wilmington. Good on the Nats too. Henseler is a 5th year senior and 24 years old. He needs to be aggressively pushed up the farm ladder, and a .964 OPS in Fredericksburg will help with that.
A shout out to Sam Brown. He didn’t look like much when we acquired him, but he’s been fantastic since joining. He’s now hitting .385/.459/.596 in 14 games with the Senators. Again, I don’t get it, but they’ve been playing him in the OF almost as much as they have at 1B to date, seemingly to carve out playing time for Branden Boissiere of all people. But as long as Brown is still getting regular playing time, then I’ll ignore it. Still, I cannot fathom any scenario where Brown plays a single inning in the OF for the Nats, so why bother?
Finally, a shout out to Trey Lipscomb. He’s quietly had a very good season for the Red Wings. Teammates, Andrew Pinckney (.249/.325/.408) and Yohandy Morales (.264/.339/.428) have gotten recognition for having unspectacular, but solid seasons, but Lipscomb has been just as good, while playing basically every position possible. Lipscomb is batting .257/.319/.403, and has played every position this year (at least twice!) except CF and C. He’s the ultimate utility guy. I hope he’ll get another chance in DC before the season is over.
Seaver King has worked on elevating the ball with the barrel this season as much as Yo- yo @ Rochester ?
The Erie batters had no clue against Susana. On many swings, they weren’t even close to making contact.
Ruddy rain ruined Senators mojo .
Does Delino s dudes stand a chance of getting in playoffs ?
not trying to rain on the Susana parade as he certainly appears to be healthy (the number one positive in my mind) but he basically threw two pitches yesterday with his change up basically shelved. his fastball was routinely 100+ and his slider was good as well accounting for most of the swing and miss Ks. his percentage of strikes has been pretty much the same all year and in actuality he walked three yesterday as he hit a batter on a 3-1 count.
he was one batter from facing McGonigal a third time and Max Clark left the game after AB and one swing where he injured his hand. the home run was on a 100MPH fastball up and in and the kid destroyed it. good for him, he looks special.
still a work in progress but getting better, on that we agree.
This is another issue ( of the many) that this org. needs to address,
Too many of the pitchers we draft and develop never seem to develop a third pitch.
It seems to me that the Nats tend to value a guy with 2 very good or plus pitches ( fastball being most important) than 3 good ones because if they never develop that third pitch, they could always stick him the pen.
Im not sure if that’s the right approach.
I’d rather have someone with a low 90’s fastball but who can also throw 2 other good off speed pitches with control.
Dickerson is taking more walks lately, hopefully he finishes the season strong.
that Feliz has effectively moved him off SS lately is a little surprising.
I wish they could find some time for Rafael Ramirez but with Mota now back from injury it’s pretty crowded.
Eli Willits heading to F’burg. A little surprised, but the Nats must feel good about where he is after the last few weeks in Florida. This explains why Luke Dickerson has started playing 2B for the F Nats.
Interesting! It’ll be nice to get a glimpse of him before the season ends.
happy to see this. the complex is fine but real games are different. Ethan Holliday has already appeared in 5 games
We may be seeing the formation of who will be on the post season
“ pink slip “ list as players get shifted to the developmental list ( assigned to an out station in Siberia for the CIA?)
Let’s see the Sens rebound in this DH amidst possible rain showers along Lake Erie
BB and Brown sure are book ending Delarosa good . Yes DDSr doesn’t need JDL or Donte ( inferno ) Williams .
