Good to see King get two hits, but man, what a bitterly disappointing season from him. He’s now hitting merely .227 /.282 /.303 in Harrisburg, and and equally disappointing .245 /.294 /.341 on the season.

I really can’t see any silver linings to this season. He’s not walking at all (5.7 BB%, which has remained stable across levels), he’s hitting for zero power (5 HR and .096 ISO on the season). His hit tool, which was supposed to be one of his most polished tools is a far cry from it, hitting .243 on the season. And it’s not bad luck; he’s got a .299 BABIP!
I guess he’s got some speed? Stealing 22 bases on the season, but it’s still not exactly special. 180 players have stolen more than 22 bases in the minors this season (28 of whom have stolen >40). Wilmingtonians and Harrisburgers: how’s his defence? Does he have good range? He’s got 17 errors on the season and a not great .951 Field%, which I know doesn’t tell the whole story.

Meanwhile, guys who were widely considered more highly regarded than King, like Bryce Rainer, Trey Yesavage, Braden Montgomery and Cam Smith, that were still on the board at 1-10, are largely living up to their reputations, and with the exception of Rainer all signed for considerably less than King.

It’s no wonder we are where we are when we consistently whiff on our first rounders. Here’s to hoping the Nats were actually smarter than everyone else this time with the Willits pick.

Actually, my big fear is that Willits is the next Seaver King . . .

Law and Longenhagen were both really fond of King, so it’s not like there wasn’t a consensus of folks liking him. Law did say this year that someone in the organization had obviously messed with King’s swing, which is concerning. Obviously they didn’t make it better.

Part of the selling point on King was that he took walks and made contact, neither of which have been the case this year. His 20% K rate isn’t awful, but it’s a dramatic rise from his 12% at Wake last year. He’s also not showing much pop.

Even though the early returns are concerning, it’s WAY too early to give up on King. He’s only 22. He’s supposedly an extremely hard worker. Now he knows what he need to work on.

the biggest jump in baseball is going from hiA to AA, he will figure it out or he won’t.

Another strong start from Clemmey, other than the five walks. I guess they’re sticking to a plan to keep him at A+ for the season. He just turned 20 three weeks ago, so there’s really no rush.

This scrutiny on the new PD staff and their past resume experience from other organizations is note worthy
Under slot level slot over slot .
That’s why the Dodgers and their big vaults can have farm depth where they toss two good kids for an Alex Call
The jury still out on you guys in post Rizzo offices
Choi as a starter is history
Tejada may red carpet to the bullpen like CC and Rutledge

Jonathan Thomas hits a GS – well slap me and call me Shirley ! What a cosmic carpet ride in August so far
Polanco has a 3.95 ERA @ FRED . Rainouts help the bullpen for the week ahead .
Will Delino Sr see JDL , D Williams and Sam Peterson before season ends ?

One thinks that Alvarez year at Rochester has been a mixed bag found in the details of his season line score
Major asteroid asteric on his season ? Lousy leather work behind him !!
Sunday a great example . Three errors especially two by FM ( yes static at all , Steely Dan !) hinder his getting to 4-6 IP.
