Thursday’s News & Notes
| Nats Deal Relievers to Angels, Soroka to Cubs for Four Minor-Leaguers
TRADE #1 – ANGELS Eder, who turns 27 in October, was ranked #24 by Baseball America in its June update and is now Washington’s #29 prospect on MLB Pipeline. It’s the second time he has been traded this year, having been traded from the White Sox for cash at the end of March. He’s made eight relief appearances for the Angels, 13 starts for the Salt Lake Bees. Brown was a 12th Rd. pick in 2023 out of Washington State and has played two seasons at AA in the Southern League, posting a .226/.320/.645 in 218 games. He turns 24 in September. TRADE #2 Cruz posted a .745 OPS as an 18-y.o. (turns 19 next month) in the Arizona Complez League. He was drafted in the 3rd Rd. in 2024 but did not play until this year, thanks to the brilliant decision to have the complex leagues end in July instead of August. He was ranked the Cubs’ #13 prospect by MLB Pipeline. Franklin will most likely join the Red Wings this weekend, having batted .265/.393/.427 in 86 games for the Iowa Cubs. He turns 26 in November and was drafted in the 4th Rd. of the 2021 draft. |

Some here are really good at compiling “ lists “.
How about a list of those starter potential arms coming off the DL in this off season or next spring coupled with TJ guys .
Granted some starters are now middle IP guys like Choi and Shuman.
I’d imagine the PD guys will add some arms off season via Rule 5 or minor league FA paths .
Eyes on Bennett , Kent and Sullivan from here on out until season curtain close
Pablo Adonis a loogie future ?
Does Randell and Sales head to fill depleted Delino Sr Sens staff?
Sales and Shuman similar make ups ?
Shuman is doing his best to remain relative, Schnell is swinging at most everything and running into more than a few and the new OF from the Cubs will add a second Pinckney to the roster.
in top prospect news, Hassell wrapping up his best month in his time in the Nats system. walks up, strikeouts down and power numbers up.
Franklin is primarily a CF. With Hassell and Schnell popping, Lile holding his own on the MLB level and Crews about to return, wonder if the Nats trade Jacob Young today. Realize that’s out of the box, but if there is any area where the Nats have extra close to MLB ready talent it’s CF. Young has proven to be an elite defensive CF, but will never have power and his hit tool is limited.
Just a thought.
if they can get anything for him they will take it. I know he’s a favorite of some here as well as the Nats fanbase but his days as a starter are numbered. I hate to diminish what he has accomplished, mostly through hard work and athleticism.
