AFL Update: Oct. 22, 2023
It was another pitcher’s duel in the desert with Scottsdale edging Salt River, 3-2 to win for the eighth time in its last 10 games.
Orlando Ribalta was the sole National to appear in the game, working around a pair of walks in the 7th inning with no hits and no whiffs.
The 25-y.o. Floridian was the pitcher of record when a pair of Phillies minor-leaguers delivered the game-winning run, with 22-y.o. Gabe Ricones, Jr. walking, stealing second and third, and scoring on 26-y.o. Matt Kroon’s one-out single. It was Ribalta’s third win of the fall.
The first-place Scorpions (11-6-1) face every team this week, with an off day on Thursday, home games tomorrow night and Friday night, and road games on Tuesday night, Wednesday afternoon, and Saturday afternoon.
Somehow Ribalta is tied with fellow reliever Jack Sinclair for the most wins among all pitchers in the AFL with 3.
Strange stat!
