Wow! A Holden Powell sighting. In the last 2 years he pitched a total of 4 innings. His injury is still a secret. Remember back to the draft that he was pegged to have a very quick path to the majors.
Did Gore having an elbow injury make him more attractive to Mike Rizzo?
I had a feeling that Nogowski was going to replace Pal Joey on Hot Wings
Time for Omar to play 1b for Sens as Dunn mans 3 b with Harris around to patrol Of with Martin and Connell .
Meanwhile we await Rhinesmith in Sens active lineup ..
Ponce de Leon fountaining amidst the youth movement..
maybe the big club can benefit from his resurrection after time in the PCL of a a
This is eyes on next spring but ..
DO we rentertain Carter Kieboom on any infield platoon situation especially if Jake Alu gains traction with his ability to play several positions ?
Aldonis update ??
According to a stat that Bob Carpenter was given, Joey Meneses became the fifth-oldest player ever to homer in his first major-league game. That has to be great for him after slogging through the minors for 10 years.

I’m really pleased to see John Nogowski has been moved away from Harrisburg. Since Meregildo was promoted, he’s only played in 6 of Harrisburg’s 10 games, hitting an astounding .300/.391/.750 with a HR every other game. Meregildo, still 24 for a few more weeks, is pretty positionally versatile, and can play 3B (primarily) but also 1B and DH, so there’s plenty of ways to find him playing time, yet he’s been blocked from playing time by Nogowski, five years his senior, Wilson Garcia, four years his senior, and Gilbert Lara, only two months younger, despite an OPS .500 higher than Nogowski and Lara, and about .350 higher than Garcia.
I just don’t get it. If there was any doubt before, it’s all gone now; this team is in rebuilding mode. So why the heck are we giving priority playing time to AAAA cast offs in their late 20s like Wilson Garcia and John Nogowski?! Why did it take 225 games in Wilmington to promote Meregildo, when there isn’t a single 3B of note besides Meregildo in the entire farm system at any level.
The contrast with the recently acquired Padres players is startling. CJ Abrams was a high school draft pick in 2019, he was in the majors for a significant portion of the season. Mackenzie Gore was a 2017 HS pick, also in the majors. Compare both with our 2019 first rounder (Jackson Rutledge a JUCO pick still in Low A ball) and 2017 first rounder (Seth Romero, a “polished” college arm, and who knows where the heck Romero is anymore). Yes, both Padres picks came ahead of the Nats, but you’ll find that the Padres’ 2nd round picks (guys still on the board when the Nats picked) are also more advanced than both of the Nationals first rounders too despite being HS picks.
The Padres and the Nats are basically the opposite extremes in terms of aggressiveness in promoting/developing players. And based on the results, I know which approach looks more effective to me…
based on results?? the Padres have had two winning seasons in the last ten years
Tatiana has been fragile for Friars
Wood is a nice completion for White to observe in the same dugout . ( Wood a Rockville MD kid too)
Tatis I meant to type
“The results” was clearly contextualized in terms of the aggressiveness of player development. Or do you think the Nationals’ approach to this has been good for the past ten years?
I do know possess the knowledge or time to determine where or if they have failed. I have tried to find a team that has had consistent success and so far can not. I can only surmise that predicting the success of a ball player is not an exact science, nor is the development of one. as for pitchers, most suffer injuries of some type. you can’t predict or place blame for that.
What I do know is that minor league players are valued in one sense, how can they help the major league team win. if that means they are traded for other assets then that is just a successful as if they make it themselves, economics aside.
Robbie Ray, Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez, Dane Dunning, Jesus Luzardo, Daniel Johnson, Felipe Rivero, etc all were drafted or developed by the Nats. the players they got in return helped create one of the most successful teams of the 2010s.
Rizzo had a mission, win and win fast. by some miracle he did. he deserves the opportunity to see this through. I suspect he will draft differently, I know the organization has committed additional resources, hopefully the next owner will not shift gears again.
Millas needs to get back to AA to determine if he’s figured something out or hit his ceiling.
Red Wings just moved way up on must see list
no camera on Lara last night but the line score sure looks better
FredMD if you had a walk up song to plate it would be the Doobie Bros “ Listen to the Doctor !”
I want to pay tribute to Vin Scully who passed away yesterday at rope young age of 94 .
One of the classiest individuals I have ever met on planet earth .
During a weather delay in DFW airport in the 1980s he spun stories to me and another .
His voice is heavenly not put on like many of the milk toast wanna beees in the booth now .
I am sure Bob Carpenter has plenty of Scully stories through the years .
It’s too bad he wasn’t behind the Mike for Dodgers when Soto hit that bomb off Kershaw sending Dodger fans home blue …
