Transaction Update
As noted in the comments, the Nats made some roster moves on what would have been Opening Day:
- OPTIONED TO AAA:
- C Tres Barrera
- RHP Erick Fedde
- OPTIONED TO AA:
- RHP James Bourque
- RHP Kyle Finnegan
- UT Adrían Sanchez
- OF Andrew Stevenson
This is, of course, procedural and no doubt a result of the reported deal between MLB and the MLBPA that includes a transaction freeze, and shortening the Draft this year and next.
Why italics? Well, besides the usual m.o. of the MLBPA – selling out the interests of its future members for the hoped-for gain of its present members (OK, Boomer) – this feeds right into its plan to destroy the minor leagues. Fewer teams + fewer new players = less teams needed.
Oh, did I forget to mention 90% of draft bonuses being deferred over two years?
Good luck getting anybody who’s good at anything else besides baseball. The choice is getting easier and easier to make.
Robotic umpires. Slide down that rabbit hole with where MLB is taking the game , Alice,,,,,
Shortening the draft may work going forward, but going cheap on the bonuses ought to be a one-time emergency the-world-is-on-fire thing. MLB learning the exact wrong lessons from the Kyler Murray debacle.
Good point São Mag on the Murray lesson
Did Bengi G pack his bags abs go home to the next life chapter ??
Hi Jeff, are you talking about Benji Gonzalez? While I was at spring training, several players told me he is now a coach in the Nats system.
Gotcha. I expected that. Ty for the 411
Extra year granted of eligibility to NCAA baseball players. How shall that effect next draft ??
The good news is it will give the players more leverage, especially if the owners are trying to screw everyone.
