The BA Prospect Handbook, Part One

February 2, 2022

As usual, my knack for waiting one day too few remains intact. Yesterday, my digital copy of the 2022 Baseball America Prospect Handbook arrived in my inbox. Alas, my junior member of the staff is not up to the task of reviewing it, so I had to do it myself. Yesterday’s convo in the comments …

Offseason Update: Feb. 1, 2022

February 1, 2022

The good news is that January is finally over. The bad news is that, statistically speaking, February is often the snowiest month. This week MLB and MLBPA restarted their negotiations, but it seems rather obvious that it will require games to be lost for the owners to end their lockout. Please note that syntax: It’s …

Offseason Update: Jan. 25, 2022

January 25, 2022

We’re still here, waiting for Godot the spring, working on the player capsules, hoping for something truly significant to happen… I’ll be headed back to Greenville, SC this week for an email marketing conference, which, TBH, I didn’t think would actually happen. I’m hoping that once I’m away from the worst part – the airports; …

Nationals Name 2022 Farm Managers, Coaches

January 19, 2022

In the wake of last year’s teardown at the trade deadline, followed by the announcement of a new sheriff in the player development town, it probably shouldn’t come as a surprise that the 2022 version of this annual announcement feels a little different. Obviously, with the MLB lockout (make sure you get that right, the …

Nats Announce International Signs

January 16, 2022

For the second straight year, the Nationals have gone big, signing Cuban sensation Christian Vaquero for a reported (and record) $4.925M bonus. The Nats 2022 pool was $5,179,700. The 17-y.o. Vaquero, a switch-hitting OF, was ranked #1 by Baseball America and #2 by MLB Pipeline. He’s considered to be a five-tool talent, listed at 6’3″ …

Plugging Away at the Watchlist

January 10, 2022

Longtime readers know when they see this post, we’re just trying to prove that the site has not gone dark. Still no transactions from BA, still no organizational All-Star story from MiLB to make fun of (remember when they named Jaron Long the best RHSP in the system?!) As the headline says, I’m in the …

Offseason Update: Jan. 4, 2022

January 4, 2022

Just a quick post to let you know we’re still here.

I’ve added a couple of pages to the “Road Trips” tab and have begun work on the Watchlist.

I don’t anticipate any transactions anytime soon; MiLB.com has been returning this for more than a month now.

We’re at the mercy of the MLB-MLBPA impasse and it seems fairly obvious that very little will change until either spring training starts or the strike is ended. My money is on spring training.

The next possible thing on my radar is MiLB posting its “Organizational All-Stars,” which will provide us something to laugh at discussion fodder, but that’s it.

We now return you to your early January loathing (pic above)…
