Twice the Red Wings scored three and twice the Red Wings answered, until the 9th when Phillip Glasser’s second single of the night plated the game-winner as Rochester walked off Buffalo, 7-6. Jack Cebert hit a wall in the 4th inning, pitching to five batters and retiring none as his AAA debut stalled with three runs let in (one earned) on four hits and a walk. Connor Van Scoyoc 1-2-3 ninth earned him the win, his first at AAA in ’26. Trey Lipscomb got back on the horse and galloped home along with two of his teammates for his 29th HR and also doubled to lead Rochester’s ten-hit parade (pay no attention to the 13 strikeouts).

The rains came in the 7th and ended this one with a 2-0 shutout of Harrisburg by Chesapeake. The loss went to Luke Young on a two-run HR in the 5th, his sole inning pitched. Josh Hartle started and went four, walking four and giving up three hits while striking out seven. The Senators were held to five singles and three walks with nobody reaching base twice and 11 batters going down on strikes.

The Blue Rocks and BlueClaws were rained out last night. They’ll shoot to make it up tonight with a twi-night doubleheader.

Fredericksburg administered another paternity test and shut out Delmarva for a second straight night, 9-0. Leuris Portorreal got the first ten out while giving up a hit, no walks, and two whiffs. Sam Broderson finished the fourth and was credited with the win by the Delmarva scorekeeper despite Noah Millikan tossing three scoreless after him. Rafael Ramirez Jr. reached base five times and scored five times, falling a homer shy of the cycle while Juan Cruz drove in four while going 3-for-4 with sac fly to lead the FredNats attack.

Wild that the Red Wings are on a 15-5 run and almost every game is a bullpen game. Curious what is the best winning percentage for the Nats AAA team since the move to DC. Rochester’s 78-49 has to be close to, if not, the best.
Syracuse Chiefs had a winning record for three years but nothing to this extent. otherwise all others were typically below .500

Does anyone understand Lipscomb’s status after this season? Him being added and removed from the 40 man has me confused about his years of team control. Once a player is designated for assignment, does the control clock go back to the usual one, after six years (which would be after next season) you are granted free agency? Does his major league service time (over 100 days) factor into that at all?
Either way, please DFA Vivas already and promote Lipscomb.
Agree that Lipscomb should be on the active roster than Vivas, but the Nats are obsessed with matchups; so, as a left-handed batter (and with no viable infield options who bat lefty), Viva keeps a roster spot, over a superior player in Lipscomb.
Under current rules (which could be changed by a new CBA), if the Nats don’t put Lipscomb on the 40 man roster, he becomes a minor league free agent after the 2027 season as he will have spent six seasons in the minors.
The unclear issue is the Rule V draft. Lipscomb was over 19 when the Nats drafted him; so, the Nats had four minor league seasons to put him on the 40 man roster. The Nats actually waived Lipscomb before the Rule V draft, and no one claimed him off waivers. After that, the Nats assigned Lipscomb to Rochester. He was not taken in the 2025 Rule V draft (not sure if he was eligible, but assume he was). So, if the adding and removing him from the 40 man have no impact on his Rule V status, unless the Nats add Lipscomb to the 40 man roster before the 2026 Rule V draft, he could get taken in the Rule V draft (and I believe he would be drafted if available).
There is a big HOWEVER. The last time there was a lockout between the end of the 2021 season and the start of the 2022 season. MLB first postponed the Rule V draft, and then MLB canceled it. Would guess the same thing happens for the 2026-27 lockout (pretty sure this issue has already been decided among MLB teams; if there is doubt, the answer will be obvious if the Nats don’t add their best Rule V eligible players to the 40 man after the season).
So, the Nats don’t have the typical incentive to add Lipscomb to the MLB roster either before the end of the season or just after that they normally would.

Three runs scored on an error and two single-out grounders. The error made one of the three runs unearned, but because he lost the lead, Yean gets charged with the blown save.
