Worcester 6 Rochester 3
• Sampson 5IP, 8H, 3R, 3ER, 1BB, 2K, 3HR
• Weigel (L, 4-3) 1IP, 3H, 3R, 3ER, 2BB, 0K, BK
• House 2-4
• Chaparro 1-3, R, HR, SF, 3RBI
Rochester came back from 3-0 deficit with a two-run HR in the 6th and a sac fly in the 8th only to see it vanish in the bottom of the 8th. The (ugh) Woo Sox scored three times to double up the Red Wings, 7-6. Starter Adrian Sampson gave up three runs on three solo HRs and eight hits total over five innings, walking one and striking out two. Patrick Weigel took the loss as he put on five baserunners and let in three in the 8th. Brady House singled twice while Andrés Chapparro drove in all three runs on a the aforementioned HR and sac fly to lead the Red Wings offense. Roster moves: OF Daylen Lile optioned from Washington.
Harrisburg 3 Reading 2
• Luckham 4IP, 2H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 7K, HR, E
• Saenz 3IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB, 1K
• Santos (W, 3-2) 2IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB, 1K
• King 2-4, R, RBI, 2K, 2SB
• Glasser 1-3, BB, SB(10)
For the third time in four games, the Senators threw the last punch in the 9th, knocking out the Fightins, 3-2. Murphy Stehly, who had his 10-game hit streak stopped on Thursday, singled to lead off the final frame and scored ahead of Max Romero’s 9th double. Junior Santos put up goose eggs in the 8th and 9th and picked up the win. Kyle Luckham went the first four and gave up both Reading runs on a home run while issuing two walks and strikcing out a season-high of seven. Seaver King singled twice, stole two bases, scored a run, and drove in one to pace Harrisburg’s six-hit, three-walk offense.
Wilmington 8 Brooklyn 2
• Sykora (W, 1-0) 5IP, 3H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, 7K, BK
• Glavine 2IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• White 3-5, 2R, HR, 3RBI, 2K
• S. Petersen 3-5, 2RBI, SB
• Lomavita 3-5, 2R
Travis Sykora gave up multiple runs for the first time this season but also went five full innings, getting 15 outs—seven by way of the K—on 62 pitches to earn his first win of the season in an 8-2 Wilmington triumph. The Blue Rocks bats were operating on all but one cylinder (Armando Cruz, 0-5) as they cranked out 17 hits. T.J. White, Sam Petersen, and Chad Lomavita each went 3-for-5 and combined for four runs and five RBI.
Delmarva 2 Fredericksburg 1
• Da. Garcia 5IP, 4H, 1R, 1ER, 4BB, 1K, BK, E
• Minckler (L, 1-4) 1IP, 1H, 1R, 1ER, 2BB, 1K
• Vaquero 1-4, 2B, RBI
• Y. Rivero 1-3, R, 2B
Yoander Rivero and Christhian Vaquero hit back-to-back doubles in the 3rd to give Fredericksburg a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, the offense was mostly AWOL after that, save for a Luke Dickerson double in the 6th and a Kelvin Diaz single in the 7th. Davian Garcia gave up the tying run in his five innings pitched, with four hits and four walks allowed and one whiff. Ryan Minckler and the strike zone remain estranged as the 22-y.o. issued walk nos. 21 and 22 in his 20th inning pitched and allowed the game-winning run to suffer his fourth loss. Roster moves: SS Kelvin Diaz reassigned from the FCL.
FCL Nationals 5 FCL Cardinals 1
• Sullivan 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• B. Romero (W, 2-1) 4⅔ IP, 3H, 1R, 1ER, 0BB, 5K
• L. Arias 2-3, R, BB, 2B
• Batista 1-3, R, BB, 2B, OF assist @ 2B
• A. Feliz 1-4, BB, 2B(5), 2RBI, E(5), CS
The F-Nats put up four in the 2nd and cruised to a 5-1 win over the F-Cards. Liam Sullivan turned in his obligatory rehab inning before giving way to the real starter, Bryan Romero. Sullivan struck out two of three three batters faced while Romero allowed the lone run on three hits and no walks over four and 2/3rds to pick up the win. Luis Arias led the hit colum with a single and a double while Angel Feliz drove in two with his 5th double to pace the FCL Nationals offense. Roster moves: LHP Liam Sullivan assigned from Fredericksburg for MiLB rehab.
DSL Nationals 6 DSL Angels
• Carrasco 4IP, 6H, 1R, 1ER, 0BB, 2K
• Jo. Sanchez (W, 2-0) 2IP, 4H, 3R, 3ER, 0BB, 0K, HR
• M. Ruiz (SV, 2) 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 1K, HBP
• Vargas 2-2, 2R, 2BB, HR, 2RBI, SB
• D, Hernandez 1-3, R, BB
The DSL Nationals scored in four of their first five “ups” to take a 6-2 lead and held on to down the DSL Angels, 6-4. Jesus Carrasco went the first four and allowed a run on six hits and no walks while striking out two. The win went to Jose Sanchez despite three runs let in on four hits (one HR), no walks, and no strikeouts. Manuel Ruiz worked around a Robles in the 9th to earn his second save. Esnaider Vargas singled, homers, walked twice, scored twice, and drove in two to power the D-Nats offense.
It’s good to see Liam Sullivan emerge from witness protection. He’s one who has always intrigued me. The Nats do like ’em BIG!
Lomavita’s OPS is almost 50 points above that of King’s when they promoted King, so you would think that they’ll let him escape the Wilmington hitting graveyard soon. He did struggle against Hudson Valley last week, though.
