The Storm Chasers put up four in the top of the 6th and looked like they were on their way to their 12th straight win. But here’s the twist, the Red Wings got two in the bottom of the 6th and two more in the bottom of 7th and held on for a 5-4 win. Wily Peralta turned in five scoreless innngs with two hits and three walks allowed while striking out four. Odalvi Javier put on all five batters he faced on base. Jose Ferrer let in two of three inherited runners while getting out of the 6th and put up a goose egg in the 7th. Alex Call homered and drove in two while Jake Allu singled, doubled, and scored a run to lead the Rochester offense. Roster moves: IF Carter Kieboom placed on the 7-Day I.L.; RHP Andrés Machado activated from 3-Day T.I.L.; LHP Alberto Baldonado released to play in NPB.

Harrisburg rallied for two runs in the top of the 6th to take a 2-0 lead. Alas, Evan Lee and the strike zone were estranged in the bottom of the 6th as the southpaw walked four of seven batters to give those two runs back. That took a possible win away from Alex Troop, who tied his career-high 10 whiffs while grounding the Flying Squirrels for five innings with one hit and three walks allowed. The Senators couldn’t move the free runner past third base in the 10th, when Onix Vega bounced into a twin-killing; or the 11th, when Jacob Young and James Wood both struck out after a Robert Hassell sacrifice. The loss went to Joel Peguero on a leadoff single in the 11th after the Harrisburg closer pitched a scoreless 10th.

The Blue Rocks scored in each of their last six “ups” to down the IronBirds, 7-6. Andrew Alvarez turned in his first quality start of ’23 with one run let in on two hits, a walk, and a Robles. Todd Peterson coughed up four runs on two hits and two walks in the top of the 8th to give Alvarez the no-decision. T.J. White extended his hit streak to five games with an RBI single in the bottom of the 8th, followed by José Sánchez’s IF single that put Wilmington up 7-5. Tyler Schoff cordero’d through the 9th, giving up an unearned run on a Sánchez error and two hits to meet the criteria for a save, which also gave Peterson the rulebook win. Yasel Antuna was the only Blue Rocks batter not to march in the team’s ten-hit parade, which included a team cycle with a Sánchez double, a Jared McKenzie triple, and a Will Frizzell HR.

The FCL Nationals rallied for three runs in the 5th to erase a 2-0 lead and three more in the 6th to take a 6-2 advantage. The F-Nats held on for a 6-4 win to end a four-game losing streak. The win went to Josue Carmona despite retiring just one of three batters faced. Moises Diaz struck out four while tossing two perfect innings to earn his second save. Max Romero singled, walked, doubled twice, adn drove in three to power the FCL Nationals offense, which squeezed six runs out of six hits without a HR.

It’s not like he’s almost 27 or anything like that (oh wait)
So Wood is striking out at a 35% clip at AA but also punishing the ball at a .520 SLG number when he actually makes contact. What happened to the guy who was only striking out at 17.8% and walking at 15.7% after 50 games in A ball at the time of the trade? Yes, AA pitching is much better, and yes, Wood is only 20 and “playing up,” so I’m not down on him at all. Just wondering where that level of plate discipline has gone.
Will Frizzell has now mastered High A, there is no one at AA blocking him and he is ready this time.
Found myself rooting for Tennessee in the CWS last night just so LSU doesn’t pitch Paul Skenes (whom I already have penciled into next year’s Nats rotation, of course) on three days rest after throwing 122 pitches his last start.
Alas, LSU won so now we’ll see what the Tigers do tonight. Here’s hoping they save Skenes for tomorrow.
Derek Hill was just promoted to DC, as Robles was sent back to the IL.
I’m surprised Call wasn’t re-promoted. And I’m disappointed if not Call, then not Alu. But I understand because the Nats need a CF and Lane Thomas isn’t one.

Any word on Kieboom’s injury? Is this going to turn into another season-ender? What an all around disappointing season for him. When he’s played, he’s been fine, but he’s barely played. Only 30 games all season…
The DSL Nats are so, so bad right now. 0-11 with all around terrible hitting, and merely bad pitching.
Quite the contrast with the DSL Dodgers who are 12-0.
I should add the Dodgers are playing as a split squad. They have another team that is itself 7-5. The Nats have no excuse. This is the cream of the crop. And winless.
