FCL Nationals – OFF DAY
The F-Nats visit the F-Marlins today, then rematch tomorrow in West Palm Beach, then host the F-Mets on Saturday in what could be a battle for 1st place.

He walked none and struck out eight. 17-y.o. Leodarlyn Colon closed it out with two goose eggs for his first career save. Winder Diaz singled twice, scored once, stole a base, and drove in a run to lead the D-Nats attack.
Tough outing for Parker. I’d say this was a regression to the mean, but his troubles yesterday were for the exact opposite reasons this season. His control has been his problem, which was fine. A walk and a wild pitch isn’t great for 1.1 IP, but it was the 8 hits that dropped in that knocked him out of the game, and he’s been basically unhittable this season, allowing only 41 hits in 73.2 IP before yesterday. So maybe that was an unsustainable BABIP catching up to him after all…
Leodsrlyn a great name for August .
Nice to see young arms lower levels making a statement
As for Parker maybe just sing the song : moma said there would be days like this !
Let’s see what Karlo does in the FRED pen with the rest of the brigade already accepting their roles
Free agents etc
Jefrey-Rod
Ponce De Leon
Kilome ( softly with his bloop single , Roberta Flack )
Logan Verrett…
Mo Mo ji cah!
Goes yard 3 rd time this morning
We all know that the Rainey TJ procedure had much to do with not trading Kyle …
A shout out to the numbers gatherers with deep digs in stats
Interesting to see how many IP Watsons winter signings- re- signings arms ate Innings for the top affiliates
Sharp , Reyes Herrera etc etc etc .
Innings eaters are needed if we’re going to engage in planned shutdowns of young pitchers for weeks at a time. Seems like people like Luis Reyes and Jefry Rodriguez are always available to take the hill.
Jefrem Leon on the bump for the Complex
Cody Wilson leading off
Daniel Johnson sharpening his swing for Rochester ??
Yes, quite a weird outing for Parker. I was thinking the same thing — he’s practically been unhittable. Maybe they told him to “challenge hitters” more to try to get his walk rate down or something. Hoping that outing was an anomaly rather than a regression.
poor command can lead to more than just walks, if he’s missing down the middle he can get crushed
Good to see Trey Harris make an appearance last night. 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI is a solid start!
I wonder if we’ll see the Soto prospects appear today?
Speaking of new infusions of talent, I wonder if it will take as long as it did last year before the recent draftees start playing? Pre-2020, it usually took 10 days before the early signings started playing, but last year it took longer for whatever reason. The first 2021 draft picks appeared in late July, about 2-3 weeks after the draft, and we didn’t see any Nationals picks until mid to late August (House’s first game was Aug 24, for example), a full 6 weeks later. Hope it’s faster this year!
At least we’ve already seen some of the undrafted free agents appearing. John McHenry got a start 2 days ago.
I also noticed in the DSL box score, some of our 2022 IFAs are starting to filter in. Wilfry Pena, who appears to have signed a deal last week, struck out the two batters he faced on Tuesday.
The Harris double was almost an opposite field homer. He was out by 15 feet trying to stretch it into a triple.
What a night for Mitchell Parker, facing 13 hitters and getting only 4 out.
Will Frizzell is crushing it but only as a DH. Is he still injured?
he’s splitting first base duties with Bossierie, though maybe not 50/50
now that I look he’s only played one game in the field, he looked a little stiff and committed an error. then again Boisserie is no Keith Hernandez
“Boisserie is no Keith Hernandez”
Really? His defense was supposed to be one of his few above average skills.
BA’s scouting report:
“Boissiere has quietly been an excellent hitter throughout the entirety of his Arizona career, hitting well above .300 each season. This spring he started to tap into a bit more power, and his simple approach at the plate gives him an up-the-middle approach and good zone control, with 36 walks and 42 strikeouts through the regular season. While he increased his home run total in 2021, he doesn’t profile as a typical slugging first baseman and is more similar to former Wildcat Alfonso Rivas (drafted in fourth round by Oakland in 2018). Boissiere may go in a similar draft slot as his predecessor, especially to a club that appreciates his plate discipline and ability to pepper the gaps. It’s a flat swing, but with good timing, and he uses all fields. Some scouts have Boissiere as a plus defender at first base, with good hands and feet. While he has some experience in the outfield and enough tools to be adequate, his below-average speed and arm will likely keep him on the dirt at the next level.”
And Kris Kline:
“Boissiere is a hitter over power now, really, really slick defender, which we needed in our system,”
It’d be extra disappointing to hear that while the bat isn’t developing as hoped, that his defense is also not as good as advertised.
it would be nice to see Theophile get back to what he was successful with in F’burg, throwing strikes and getting ground balls.
Jose Sanchez has a 1.068 OPS with 2outs, RISP. from the limited times I’ve been able to watch him he has often gone to right field in these situations, Yadier Molina used to do that. I really like the way this kid plays, whether he’s good enough to make it all the way or not.
MD : somebody must have worked on Sanchez going the opposite way

Rochester could use the energy of C.J. Abrams. His OPS in the minors is .910.
