Rochester rallied for two in the 9th to tie, two in the 10th to take a lead, and three in the 12th as they won the extra-inning slugfest, 8-5. Cade Cavalli’s woes followed him from Florida as the Mud Hens pecked him for three runs on four hits, including a two-run HR. He walked one and struck out four, throwing 66 pitches with 45 as strikes. Luis García broke up the shutout with a solo HR in the 6th and finished the night 3-for-6 with three runs scored and two RBI. Longtime National Adrián Sanchez was the only other batter to have multiple hits as the 2007 IFA singled twice in five plates to the trip, including the go-ahead run in the 12th.

FREDERICKSBURG ANNOUNCES OPENING DAY ROSTER
The only affiliate to announce their roster yesterday was the one that most of you have been an ticipating for weeks in the comments, the Fredericksburg Nationals.
There are more than a dozen watchlist players, highlighted by – you guessed it – Brady House. The most notable active pitcher is Andry Lara, who finished up 2021 with two September starts. RHP Jackson Rutledge will start the season on the I.L. as will LHP Cole Quintanilla.
If/when Harrisburg and/or Wilmington release their rosters, I’ll update this post to include them Done.
Until then, buckle up kids. With two straight last-place finishes and a third predicted for Washington, I suspect there’s going to be a lot more attention paid to the minors this year.
UPDATE #1
The Senators have released their Opening Day Roster, featuring Evan Lee and Gerardo Carrillo from the 40-man and Cole Henry from the The Big Three.
UPDATE #2
The Blue Rocks have done likewise via the Twitters, highlighted by Yasel Antuna repeating the level.
Brady House photo — you’re already in mid-season form on Opening Day, Luke!
Cool Senators batting balance
In life there are no coincidences especially baseball
Case in point
Lucius Fox bypasses signing letter of intent with NC Wolfpack and sighs with Giants because of a one Trea Turner .
Fox sure made good time from WPB to ROCH in his
Ride .
Other than watching Soto, all that’s going to be interesting this season is going to be on the farm, heavily leaning toward that town 50 miles south of DC. Get there early to watch House and T. J. White in BP. It’s a very good sign to see both of them, who won’t turn 19 until mid-summer, deemed ready for a shot at full-season ball. (John B noted yesterday that Lile had TJ surgery so supposedly will miss the whole season.) Also good to see Lara getting the bump to FBurg.
I hadn’t heard that 2019 1st pick Rutledge had managed to hurt himself (again). The 2017 1st pick (He Who Shall Not Be Named) got a 60-day strain. And the 2018 1st pick wasn’t deemed healthy enough to make a roster out of camp (unless he shows up in Wilmington, which seems unlikely). The 1st pick from 2016 is also on IL, and the 1st pick (2d rounder) from 2015 got DFA’d. At least the 2020 1st pick showed up . . . and starts the year with a 6.75 ERA. The good news I see on Cavalli’s stat line is that he only walked one in four innings.
Lile had that injury before last season, that’s why he was only DHing last year.
He should be ready soon. Can’t find anything else.
The Nats posted a short video in the offseason of Lile hitting, saying he had bulked up something like 17 pounds. So I was surprised to hear that he’s injured. Apparently Nats Elbow doesn’t just apply to pitchers!
He had Tommy John in March. He is out for awhile.
John, do you know the story?
This injury is not new, they must have thought he could heal without the surgery.
If he had the surgery just last month that will totally screw his development this year.
Mark L: He played last year with a “sore arm” that turned out to be a slight UCL tear. He tried to rehab through it, but finally needed TJ according to a Jesse Dougherty tweet.
He dropped in the draft because his arm was considered weak. Obviously, it may be better than advertised when healthy. Daylen Lile that can play CF would likely have gone higher. He had a five hit game against the Nats in the Area Code games.
Dunn and Connell those winter time predicted bump ups
What is Hubbard doing on a developmental list ?
FRED should get some Sammy Davis Jr audio for when Sammy takes the field to upstage Lad House
Lol!
Holy moly! Would you look at that! The Nationals farm system collectively has a winning percentage above .500 for the first time in ages!
I’m going to have to find positives wherever I can this season….
Teel had more strikeouts than Cavalli in an inning less of work. Teel twice worked out of jams. The blown save was because Garcia made a throwing error with 2 outs that tied the game rather than ending it.
Not the greatest evening time weather to grip a baseball for a pitcher or infielder
So Antuna doesn’t even rate AA?!?!
Have guys like Canning and Upshaw been released or retired? I’m trying to think of other likely names missing from the AA roster. Sort of surprised to see Andrew Lee still at it.
Canning assigned to Wilmington. I don’t know about Upshaw.
Canning a blue claw means no Mendez promotion from 21 effort
KW
Marincanz parked on XST list
Gushue basically a mentoring player / coach @ AA
There’s an awful lot of minor league free agents on Harrisburg’s roster. Where’s Canning, Upshaw and Cate. Guess we’ll be waiting for the Wilmington roster to find out.
It would be shocking for Cate to be demoted after a full season at AA. Maybe he’s hurt? But not listed on Harrisburg IL.
Mendoza also a prominent name that’s missing.
He’s on their IL now.
The regular Harrisburg online roster that shows Cate on 7-day IL also shows Andrew Istler on the restricted list. LOL, he hasn’t played since 2019.
FBurg online roster listing both Denaburg and Rutledge on 7-day IL. Interesting that Rutledge is connected to low A squad. The Wilmington online roster currently is only showing active players.
I happen to have the final roster from the Sens last 2021 series. Only 8 players returning. 10 if you count Berrios and Peguero listed on the development list. Lowest number of returnees that I have seen in 20 seasons.
Sens fan definitely rebuilding retooling mode
Wilmington has posted its roster on social media. Antuna and Mendoza are still there. No Cate or Mendez. Also no Aldo Ramirez. Pineda is still there, but no Millas. There must be a busload of guys still circling in FLA somewhere.
Overflow parking aka XST list
Each affiliate below AAA needed a fine line between competitive balance and pushing a few kids …
Fredericksburg should be very competitive. I wouldn’t bet too much on AA and A+. The secret weapon for Wilmington might be a number of guys repeating the level . . . if they can finally figure things out. Harrisburg could have some good pitching but perhaps not a lot of offense.
KW city isle cracker box will help some numbers get padded
Lara Longo Harrison Gushue Garcia Taylor Connell
Cluff Alu not bad
