One has to wonder if in 10 years there’ll be a story about the players who only made the majors by virtue of the 2020-? pandemic (The Cup of COVID Guys?) though I don’t think we’ll call 2020-? MLB era the “tall men vs. the fat men at the company picnic” as they did in WW2.
Sorry, but deep down you should know this is true, just as you should know that many such cups in “normal times” are purely a matter of luck.
I’m confused about the 2 additions to the 40 man roster. Who was removed or placed on the 60 day IL to make room or are there special circumstances with all the covid cases?
SF, the rules are completely different for Covid related moves.
I think this is the one nice side effect of this debacle. I’m excited for Cody Wilson and Sam Clay to make their debuts. I just hope that this occurs during a blowout for the Nats, not against them.
Go Carter K
Rooting for you as well as the afore mention C Sanfler !!
Safe to say Matt Adams will see PT in Denver this summer .
Grizzly Adams of the Rockies now
Luke
You should post a ball player as Lyfted from alt training site since sites are so close
The White Sox might be using the pro women’s softball field near Ohare ??
The big story left untold is Denaburg’s Tommy John surgery. Statistically, there is a 90% chance that the first 50 players drafted will make it to ‘The Show’. Denaburg is looking like the other 10%. To make matters even worse he is Rule V eligible next year.
Giolito, Fedde, Denanburg – all guys who had known arm issues during their draft year which the Nats initially dismissed as nothing serious and drafted anyways
I know (especially in Giolito’s case) that it can still work out even after surgery, but it’s enough with this rolling this dice approach already…they gotta start going for the surer thing (healthwise that is).
Later round gambles ( a la Luzardo, hell even a Purke)…fine…but not with their first rounders.
Yeah, it’s pretty safe to look back on the past decade and realize that the broken-arms draft strategy was a pretty comprehensive failure.
Between Strasburg, Storen, Meyer, Giolito, Fedde, Dunning, Romero, Denaburg and Rutledge is looking mighty poor. Yes, Strasburg has been a real gem, but typically #1 picks turn out that way. Getting a total of 3 good years of relief pitching (from Storen) and a few mediocre seasons out of Eaton for the other 8 first rounders is a dreadful return. I guess there’s still hope that Rutledge returns some value, but if his predecessors are indicative, then we shouldn’t hold out hope.
I wonder if other teams have been as poor as the Nats at drafting in recent years.
Cody gets his 1st ML AB!
