• Robles 3-4, 2R, 2B, HR, BB, RBI

Victor Robles returned to AAA for the first time in more than three months and re-established his trade value reached base four times (without getting hit by a pitch!) while going 3-for-4 with a double and a homer. Roster moves: OF Victor Robles activated from 7-Day DL.
Harrisburg vs. Bowie – PPD
The Senators are expected to resume play after a two-day layoff with a single game tonight and a doubleheader. The Nats’ AA affiliate is in third place, 2½ games behind second-place Altoona for the wild card and nine games behind the division leader, Akron.
Potomac 10 Carolina 8
• Crowe 5⅔ IP, 2H, 4R, 4ER, 2BB, 6K, HBP
• Acevedo (BS, 2) ⅔ IP, 4H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, 0K, HR, 3-3 IR-S
• Fuentes (W, 2-1) 2⅔ IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 3K, 2-0 IR-S
• Agustin 2-2, 2R, BB, SF, 2RBI
• Sundberg 2-4, R, 2RBI
• Wiseman 2-4, 2RBI, 2K
Potomac blew a 6-1 lead but rallied for two in the 8th and held on in the 9th for an 8-6 win over Carolina. Wil Crowe failed to go six innings for the 10th time in 16 appearances, but pitched well enough to earn the “W” with two hits and two walks allowed over five and 2/3rds innings while striking out six. He left with a 6-1 lead with two out and the bases loaded. Carlos Acevedo wasted little time in getting Crowe a no-decision as he coughed up a double, then a homer to send five runs in and wear his second blown save. In the 8th, Telmito Agustin drew a leadoff walk, took second on a Jakson Reetz sacrifice, then scored the go-ahead run on Jack Sundberg’s second RBI single of the game. Sundberg then scored from second on a (very) wild pitch to give the P-Nats a two-run lead. Steven Fuentes, who bailed Acevedo out of two-on, one-out jam in the 7th, finished the game with two and 2/3rd inning scoreless relief and picked up the win.
Lakewood 10 Hagerstown 8
• A. Lee 5IP, 5H, 2R, 1ER, 2BB, 7K
• Zwetsch (H, 1; L, 0-1) 1⅓ IP, 4H, 5R, 5ER, BB, 3K, HBP
• P. Morse (BS, 2) ⅔ IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 2K, 3-3 IR-S
• Freeman 3-3, 2B, BB, RBI
• Dunlap 3-5, 2R, 2HR, 3RBI
• Scudder 2-5, 2R, HR, 3RBI
A six-run lead was too small for the Suns ‘pen to hold as they gave up eight runs over three innings in a 10-8 loss to the BlueClaws. Andrew Lee went the first five and gave up two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out seven. Carlos Pena and losing pitcher Connor Zwetsch combined to give up eight runs on seven hits and two walks while Phil Morse let in all three runners he inherited to “earn” the blown save. Alex Dunlap went deep twice and Jake Scudder once as both drove in three to lead the Hagerstown offense.
Auburn 11 Connecticut 5
• Fletcher 2⅔ IP, 1H, 0R, BB, 5K
• Guillen (W, 4-1) 4IP, 6H, 5R, 5ER, BB, 3K, HR, BK, 2HBP
• C. Wilson 2-4, BB, 2RBI
• O’Connor 2-4, 2R, BB, RBI
• N. Perkins 2-5, R, 3RBI
A six-run 6th was basically the difference as Auburn defeated Connecticut, 11-5 in the series opener. Aaron Fletcher hit his pitch limit a bit early, but struck out five over two and 2/3rds innings. Angel Guillen gave up all five runs on six hits and a walk while hitting two batters but got the win as the pitcher of record. Cody Wilson and Pablo O’Connor both went 2-for-4 with a walk while Nic Perkins drove in three to lead the Doubledays’ 11-hit, nine-walk offense.
GCL Nationals 13 GCL Astros 7
• N. Gomez 3⅔ IP, 7H, 7R, 7ER, 4BB, 6K, HR, HBP
• F. Perez (W, 2-1) 3⅓ IP, 0H, 0R, BB, 5K, 3-0 IR-S
• Vickers 3-6, 2R, 2RBI
• L. Pena 2-4, R, 2BB, 2RBI
• Vega 2-6, R, RBI
An early 4-0 lead went up in smoke but the G-Nats managed not to lose again as they roared back from a 7-4 deficit with nine unanswered runs in the middle innings for 13-7 win over the G-Astros. Starter Niomar Gomez was dinged for all seven runs on seven hits and four walks over three and 2/3rds innings. Fray Perez came on with the bases loaded and two outs but wasn’t over his head as he stranded all three in getting the last out of the fourth, then threw three scoreless and hitless innings to get the win. Trey Vickers led the G-Nats hit parade with three singles while Landerson Pena reached base four times with two singles and two walk; both drove in two to lead the G-Nats attack. Roster moves: IF Anderson Franco assigned from Hagerstown for MiLB rehab.
So, where the heck is Mason Denaburg?? Signed 7/3/18, assigned to GCL 7/17/18, and now we’re nearly two full “turns” through the GCL rotation and he hasn’t thrown a pitch yet. What are they waiting for?
Makes you wonder whether they’ve shut him down because of the pre-draft concerns for his arm.
For whatever reason, for the second straight year, the Nats have drafted a player who has immediately entered the witness protection program.
Have to think his year is already done for all practical purposes. I’ll bet they saw something in the physical that said, ‘be very careful’.
The inevitable TJ surgery
Andrew Lee has some intriguing numbers, including a 10.8 K/9 and a .187 avg against. (Scherzer’s avg against is .182.) But Lee also has a devastating BB/9 of 10 at the moment, which leaves him with a humbling WHIP of 1.78. The strikeouts indicate that he’s still got some high-end stuff, but he’s got to find his control for it to amount to anything.
Agree KW

What assets would the Twins ask Rizzo on Kyle Gibson??
Now that Robles is “back,” the difficult calculus begins of what they’re going to do with him. I have a hard time seeing them calling him up and burning service time if he’s not going to start. And with Soto/Harper/Eaton/Taylor already fighting for playing time, it’s hard to see him starting much. So . . . as eager as we’ve been for Robles to be “back,” it’s possible he may not be “back” in DC until next April or May.
The service time discussion is out the window unless they decide to keep him in the minors til June 2019 – not happening. They should bring him up whenever they can give him real playing time.
where is Romero? last i saw he was put on 7-day dl. Is he active?
The only thing we know for sure is that he’s on the Hagerstown DL.
According to the box score, Jacob Wilson caught all nine innings for the GCL Nats and Onix Vega made his own professional debut at second. Is that right? Does Jacob now just need an appearance in center field and on the mound to complete his career positional bingo card?
Probably not, but absent any spies in West Palm Beach, we’re at the mercy of the interns at MiLB.com
I have no idea where Vega played yesterday but he’s been in plenty of box scores before yesterday, albeit all at catcher,
Right — he’s a catching prospect. Dunno if he was two-way at Broward (I think that’s where he played before the draft).
Good to see Ryan Williamson on the mound again in WPB.
Onix Vega @ 2 b Friday was interesting
