Finally Some Minor-League Signs
After nearly three weeks, BA has finally issued a transactions post. Some of the names have been previously reported, but for the sake of discussion, I will re-post them:
RHPs: Tim Alderson, Nick Masset, Andrew Robinson, Sam Runion, Stephen Shackleford, Jon Velasquez
LHP: Aaron Laffey
C: Brian Jeroloman
1B: Marquez Smith
UT: Cutter Dykstra
OF: Zach Collier
I’ve hyperlinked the “new guys” so folks can look them up (and because time is short this morning).
Most of these FAs will fill out the rosters of Harrisburg or Syracuse; it’s folly to project to one destination or the other because GM Mike Rizzo seems to plug and play these types on an as-needed basis. But I know that won’t stop some of you from trying 😉
Speaking of OG guys, Tony (help me) Renda went to Cincinnati in the Chapman trade. I’m still rooting for him.
A tip of the hat to Jeroloman, he’s one of those ‘make them tear the uniform off you. By the time he retires, he’ll be AARP material.
Give Dykstra credit, he keeps getting a little bit better each year. Maybe his time will come. Maybe not, but this site is all about hope, isn’t it?
Zach Collier was a Phillies first round pick in 2008. He played Indy ball last year. He bats left-handed bat has good size and speed. He just doesn’t make enough contact.
As expected, the Nats acquisition of Stephen Drew means that Trae Tuner and Wilmer Difo will spend most of the 2016 season in the minors. Barring an injury at the MLB level, this will allow the Nats to limit the service time for each to delay arbitration and will allow time for each to get more seasoning.
