Burgess does not seem to proving much of anything. An OBP of under .300 is pretty sad.
Burgess has been a bit of a disappointment all along-low batting average and inconsistency at every level. I can’t see him as a viable big league prospect. Although he is still young (22) and this season was his best yet. That, at least, is a positive.
Speaking of outfielders, what is the latest on the trio of Ramirez, Hood, and Perez. How much of an upside do they really have? Ramirez seemed to take a step forward this year, but nothing sensational. Hood’s stats were somewhat pedestrian, and Perez did well after a slow start, but I can’t get a handle on any of them. Would appreciate some input, Sue, BinM, and others.
Jackson – A couple of months ago, two of our frequent Hagerstown contributors did a piece that might address your concerns. At the very least, it’s a good starting point. (Hood is listed under “Right Fielders”).
Thanks Sue. Can’t believe I missed that synopsis. Interesting, but not overly encouraging, not that I was expecting it to be. There really doesn’t appear to be any outfielders, aside from Harper, anywhere in the whole system. And I’m including the Majors.
Jackson: I can’t say that your conclusion about the OF prospects is arguable at this point; There may not be much on the short-term (2-yr) horizon for OF prospects. But you might have said the same thing about the middle infield situation entering 2009, system-wide catching in 2008, or overall pitching in 2007, and been every bit as correct.
Where once there was dreck, now there is some depth, and hope for the future as well.
What has happened to Derek Norris ? Maybe I’ve missed some info on why he has not been catching or DH for the last several games ? I think the last recap I saw about him was almost a week ago, with a 3-run homer or something like that. Hopefully no new injuries.
Thanks for any news……
Derek last played on the 10th — I haven’t heard of him getting hurt, but he’s not in today’s game (going on right now).
