Rochester made it back-to-back wins and four of five from Buffalo with a 7-3 triumph on Saturday afternoon. Zak “Without A C” Kent wasn’t trying out some new guitars or playing Sara with no H’s favorite song, but instead went the first four innings an allowed a run on a solo HR and four hits total. He walked one and struck out three. Joe Glassey picked up the win with a single scoreless innings with one hit, no walks, and three K’s. Five relievers followed with Jake Bird allowing two in the 9th to make the game look closer than it was. Cayden Wallace led the Red Wings offense with two doubles, a walk, two runs scored, and three RBI while Max Romero Jr. singled, doubled, and drove in a run and Trey Lipscomb plated one with two more singles to push his season total to a career-best 147. Roster moves: RHP Andry Lara shuffled off the Development list; RHP Chandler Champlain hidden on the T.I.L.
The I.L. Second Half Playoff Race Update
And then there were two…
Rochester’s win eliminated both Scranton/Wilkes-Barre/Bruford/Wakeman/Howe and Worcester while Indianapolis lost to Gwinnett, 2-1. Syracuse was down 4-3 with one out in the 9th when Zack Short hit a two-run HR to walk off Lehigh Valley and extend its win streak to five.
Today, it’s pretty simple: The Red Wings win, they’re in. The Mets lose, they’re in. The opposite? Syracuse goes to the playoffs. Unfortunately, unless the Nats change course, they’ll be trotting out an MLB rehab—Connolly Early, who was lit like Kennedy at open bar ins his last outing—instead of the best available reliever. Buffalo is more or less doing the same, with a de facto rehabber (Josh Winckowski) making his sixth appearance after spending most of the season on the I.L.

So ROC is in the playoffs unless ROC loses and SYR wins. The SYR game starts at 1 p.m.
Love it , Luke !!
Meanwhile Rochester awaits THE MEETING ( great song off the Anderson Walkman Bruford Howe LP . ( too bad Alan White and Chris Squire never truly recorded material with Jimmy Page and Robert Plant )
Too bad Johnathan Thomas never grabbed a first baseman’s glove to join the split squad of RH. Bats to face lefty starters
Speaking of lefty starters , I see Jubal Early descendent donning the red bird jersey today as two other pitchers don taxi squad shirts
In the old days we could have joked that they would drive the bullpen golf cart for the bullpen relievers ( imagine a bid red bird break on a golf course probably sponsored by some chicken wing joint in Rochester )
Luke : how about Zak “ No C as in corn feed “ Kent ?
Somebody has to ask Paul T if signing Leandro Pineda was just a winter time after thought to fill depth or did the young Turks have doubts on Hassel 3?
Punch the bison pitching staff to punch that playoff ticket !
Today’s trivia question: who leads the Nationals’ minor leaguers in wRC+ (min 150 PA, so this includes DSL and FCL guys)?
Here’s a couple hints, because the stat surprised me.
1. He has a 141 wRC+
2. Finishing in 2nd is (amazingly) Riley Adams (137), then King (135), Wallace (134) and Willits (132) follow in quick succession.
Without cheating, can anyone guess the answer?
Serrano had a pretty clear lead in OPS , so maybe that translated into the best wRC+.
It’s astounding how good Joe Glassey has been since joining the Nats. He has still yet to allow any runs (earned or unearned) in 16 outings (18.2 IP). Not only that, he’s only allowed 5 hits (all singles), he’s only walked one batter, while striking out 23.
Extremely impressive!
He’s a “mystery man” to me. Undrafted player out of Illinois. Just turned 25 but he has only 64 G/84 IP in the minors. 11 BB and 120 K’s. Has never pitched more than 49 IP in a season in college or the minors.
Joe Glassey for Hey it’s , Franklin answer to that certain Nats trivia question
First trade between Nats and Orioles
Not expos and orioles .
The correct answer to that trivia question would be Kyle Nicolas for Randal Diaz.
None of us know what’s going to happen today, but drawing any conclusions from Early’s 1+ inning rehab assignment is a fool’s errand. Accounts that I’ve read are more in the “bad luck” (BABIP + bullpen let in inherited runners) category, but even if he’d mowed down all the batters that he faced I wouldn’t draw conclusions from that, either.
The amazing story of Leandro Pineda continues. ROC comes back from 5-1 defecit to take a 6-5 lead.
Congrats to the Red Wings bats! An impressive 8 HR performance to power their way into the playoffs, despite the arms’ worst efforts. It’s too bad Wallace wasn’t one of them to be the 2nd player to reach 30 HR in the org (and on the team).
