Rochester Red Wings, 22-17, 4th I.L. East, 3GB – 67-45 overall
Jackson Kent will reportedly get the call to D.C. to replace Zack Littell in the big club’s rotation, a financial gambit that saved some money but not as much as if he had been claimed on waivers. It’s probably a safe bet that Rochester will continue its spring-training approach to the rotation, which has had 19 different pitchers start/open/pitch first. This week, Charlotte comes to town for six, including a matinee on Thursday.
Harrisburg Senators, 20-18, T3rd E.L. Southwest, 5½ GB – 54-53 overall
For the second straight week, it’s a seven-game series scheduled for the Senators—presuming today’s thunderstorms and rain do not damage the field—making up the 4th of July rainout between Harrisburg and Richmond with a doubleheader tomorrow. As of virtual press, Kendeglys Virguez is slated to make his first appearance in the Harrisburg rotation, which already seen deadline pickups Josh Hartle and Jack Cebert take turns.
Wilmington Blue Rocks, 23-18, 3rd Sally Lg. North, 1½ GB – 54-52 overall
Wilmington dropped four of six to Brooklyn and a game and a half off the second-half pace. As predicted, Riley Maddox returned to the Blue Rocks rotation, which, along with $6, gets me a coffee at Starbucks. This week, it’s another slog up 95 to play the Renegades for games 20 through 24 this season (out of 30).
Fredericksburg Nationals, 21-20, 3rd C.L. North, 1GB – 67-40 overall
The FredNats beat up on the Carolina League’s 97-lb weakling to take five of six and get above .500… but were outscored 46-45. Coy James, one of roughly a dozen AATL players on the Fredericksburg roster, was named the Carolina League’s Player of the Week after going 9-23 with .391/.500/.913 line, including a double, a triple, three HR, five walks, three stolen bases, and eight RBI. This week, the FredNats make their final roadtrip outside of the DMV with a jaunt to Fayetteville for six night games.

The DSL Nationals ended their 0-for-August with a 4-3 win over the D-Angels. Jesus Carrasco, 20, pitched into the 5th and gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out five. Jhondel Salas, 18, finished the game with one run let in two hits, two walks, and a hit batsman while striking out three for his first win of ’26. Rayniel Lache, 17, singled twice and doubled once while Junior Castillo, 18, singled twice to lead the D-Nats’ 11-hit parade.

The idea that the Nats DFA’d Littell to save money is pretty laughable. They’re on the hook for his contract except for the prorated MLB minimum that he will get from his new team. That and the potential incentive payments are couch cushion change in MLB terms. There were a LOT of reasons to end the Littell experience that had nothing to do with money.
