Trey Lipscomb was a one-man wrecking crew, with 10 total bases on a double and two HRs as the Red Wings prevailed again by a 5-2 count. Eddie Yean started the parade of Rochester relievers and gave up both Knights runs on five hits over an inning and 2/3rds. Erik Tolman was credited with the win, his third of ’26, with a scoreless 7th while Gus Varland worked a 1-2-3 ninth again for his third save. Leandro Pineda singled twice while Seaver King and Riley Adams both singled twice to round out the hit column of seven.

Ethan Petry’s 10th AA homer broke open a 3-1 game as Harrisburg held on for a 7-2 win that stopped a three-game slide. Jack Cebert gave up a solo HR and four hits total over four innings in his second start for the Senators. Thomas Schultz pitched two scoreless with two walks and two whiffs to earn his third win while Holden Powell finished the game with the final Richmond run let in over the last three innings to get the save, his seventh. Kevin Bazzell singled once and doubled twice while Petry drove in four and reached base three times to power the Sens offense.

Riley Maddox was brilliant for seven shutout innings. Liam Sullivan was brilliant for eight pitches, getting two entire outs before losing the shutout with two out in the 8th on solo HR. In the 9th, the Renegades retrieved their bounty from the hapless southpaw, scoring seven times on four hits – including a three-run HR to walk off Wilmington, 8-5. Sullivan got the blown-save-loss while Maddox got bupkis. Jacob Walsh homered again as did Ronny Cruz as the two combined for three hits, three RBI, and three runs scored to lead the Blue Rocks offense.

Fredericksburg’s losing streak extended to five games with another bullpen collapse in an 11-4 loss to Fayetteville. R.J. Sales labored through two innings, allowing a run on hit batsman, a steal, a wild pitch, and a RBI single in the 1st and striking out four on 39 pitches. Noah Millikan was pounded again (16R in August, 20 overall in 4G), this time for five runs on five hits and three walks. Avery Ortiz’s Earl Weaver Special for his first pro homer briefly gave the FredNats a 4-3 lead while Gavin Fien singled twice and scored a run but the offense was held in check over the last five innings.

The D-Nats nearly lost a one-hitter by a 1-0 count but got single runs in the 7th and 8th to tie, then win, 2-1. Manuel Ruiz no-hit the D-Mets Orange for four innings but was charged with a run and a walk. Jesus Carrasco lost the no-no but put up four goose eggs to get his third win. Joneirbis Garces pinch-ran for Angel Ramirez, stole second base, and scored on an RBI single by Adrian Tusen in the 7th and then drove in pinch-runner Juan Duran in the 8th with a single of his own.
Lipscomb’s evolution this season is remarkable. In his senior year at Tennessee, he also had a weird power spike, hitting 22 HR, after previously hitting 2 total in his prior 3 (shortened) college seasons.
But the power he showed in 2022 never really materialized. He’s been more of a gap hitter, and never topping more than 14 HR in a season. So the 24 he’s hit this year is pretty crazy and unexpected.
To top it off, Lipscomb was already the epitome of a Swiss army knife, playing, at worst, competent defense at every infield position and corner outfield (I wonder if he’d be okay at CF too?), so his sneakily good bat can play almost anywhere.
I’ll say it again, I hope he, King or Morales will finally spare us having to watch Jorbit Vivas (fail) to play major league baseball.

Lipscomb’s three run home run was hit opposite field to right and easily cleared the fence. It was made possible by a hustling YoYo. YoYo came up with bases loaded 1 out. He hit a ground ball to third which was fielded cleanly and they got the out at 2nd but YoYo beat the throw to 1st. If he’s out, Lipscomb leads off next inning. If I believe the scoreboard pitch speed, Perales hit 100 MPH and Tolman was consistently throwing 94 – 98. It was also nice to see what a starting pitcher looks like. Too bad he pitched 5 scoreless innings for Charlotte.
Wonder if Perales pitching in relief is meaningful. Top Brass getting fed up with his inability to get through a staff 3rd time round?
The sting of Burnett for Perales will be less next summer when we see the progression of all the TJ arms working back to full health not to mention

One other comment. All season long, the Red Wings pitching coach calls all the pitches. Stands at the top of the stairs and signals to the catcher (for everyone to see) then Adams or Romero relay to the pitcher. Just do what the NFL does, let the coach sent the signal direct to the pitcher and catcher. From games I attended, most other teams including Charlotte are not calling every pitch from the dugout.
I really don’t know what to make of Petry. Is he a legit prospect? The power is there but he’s been hovering at .200 for most of the season at AA
