After losing a 3-1 lead to a three-run HR by former roster-filler C.J. Stubbs in the 4th, Rochester got two runs in the 5th and the ‘pen held the lead for a 5-4 win in the series finale. Andry Lara was the first pitcher and gave up a run on three hits, a walk, and a hit batsman while striking out three. Erik Tolman was awarded the win despite givng up the aforementioned Earl Weaver special is his single inning thrown. Zach Penrod was the last of the usual Sunday parade of relievers and worked around a walk in the 9th to get the save. Joey Weimer doubled twice and drove in a run while Phillip Glasser singled twice and had an RBI to lead the Red Wings offense. Roster moves: 3B Brady House recalled to Washington.

A three-run HR got the Fightins started and the Senators could only answer with two in a 6-2 loss that split the series. Yoel Tejada Jr. gave up that homer and five hits total over five innings to lose his AA debut. He walked four and struck out five. Branden Boissiere doubled in the first run while Sam brown doubled in Boissiere for the two Harrisburg runs to lead the six-hit, five-walk offense. Roster moves: RHP Seth Shuman, Aaron Shortridge released.

Jacob Walsh’s two-run HR ended a back-and-forth battle between Hudson Valley and Wilmington to give the Blue Rocks a 6-4 win and a series split. Baron Stuart was the opener and turned in two scoreless innings, walking one, and striking out one. Adam Boucher was the winning pitcher with a scoreless top of the 10th. Teo Banks was a triple shy of the cycle while Miguel Villarroel singled and doubled and Ronny Cruz singled to round out the Wilmington hit column of seven. Roster moves: RHP Austin Amaral reassigned to Wilmington Blue Rocks.

The FredNats were outhit 5-3 and outscored 2-1 as they got the memo to split the series. Xander Meckley gave up both Woodpecker runs on four hits, walked none, and struck out seven over four innings to lose his second Low-A game. Juan Cruz ended the no-hitter with a one-out triple in the 4th. Rafael Ramirez Jr. walked, took second on the third and final single by Sir Jamison Jones, went to third on a sac bunt by Jordan Williams, and scored on a sac fly by Manuel Cabrera. Roster moves: OF Cristhian Vaquero reassigned from the FCL.
DSL Nationals 10-28, 7th DSL South, 14GB
The DSL Nationals had their first winning week, going 3-2 with three wins (in a row!) followed by two losses. Curiously, the D-Nats’ -75 run differential is the best of the three ten-win teams in the DSL and better than the 11-win D-Braves. This week, it’s home games today, tomorrow, and Friday; road games on Tuesday and Thursday with an off day on Wednesday.
Seth Shuman was released?!? Man, I really don’t understand some of the moves in this org surrounding bullpen arms. We bring in well-known crappy discards from other orgs and fast-track them to the majors (Carson Palmquist, Gus Varland, Cionel Perez, Zak Kent, Justin Lawrence, Matt Krook, Max Kranick, and the list goes on).
Matt Krook, to just name one example, had a 14.73 ERA when he got deservedly released by the Athletics. He was immediately put on the major league roster, and now has a 7.71 ERA (8.39 FIP) with the Nats, already blowing one game, and doing his damnedest to repeat that yesterday. And Krook is not some sort of busted prospect. He’s a junkballer with a sub-90s fastball. Success (or even a dream of success) clearly matters very little as the org scrambles to find any – any warm body at all – to eat relief innings.
And here we have Seth Shuman. A guy we acquired years ago in the Yan Gomes trade (he was packaged with Millas), who’s battled a number of injuries, and finally got converted to relief last year (a move that was probably a few years overdue). He struggled last year, but found himself this year, sporting a 3.25 ERA between AA and AAA. His stuff isn’t electric, but it’s been effective. Why are we releasing him in the midst of a bullpen crisis? Why not at least release Krook, send Shuman to the majors to eat a few innings, and let him sink or swim. He couldn’t possibly be worse than Palmquist or Krook.
relievers don’t eat innings, relievers get outs. preferably strikeouts. that’s not Seth.
I was a little more surprised that Aldonis did not get a longer leash.
then again, maybe the players asked for their releases. it’s been known to happen
I would totally understand why Shuman would request a release, seeing guys like Palmquist and Krook repeatedly leapfrog him for chances.
The young Turks should acquire Chase Silseth just to potentially cause the broadcast guys to sound like Sylvester the catcher.

Yes. I’ve noticed sometimes the affiliates are ahead of the MLB interns… but sometimes they’re behind. MLB has also been a little shady again in back-dating some of the releases.

I have been unable to find any information, so does anyone here know what happened to Yohandy Morales? What few reports I’ve found about his injury call it “undisclosed”. Are we looking at him missing the rest of the season? Or might be be back when his 10 day limit (today) ends?
Likewise, has there been any more news about Seaver King? Is he expected back any time soon?
Seaver King pulled an oblique. The severity hasn’t been reported, but its not unusual for that injury to linger. IIRC, Dylan Crews missed 6 weeks last season with an oblique injury. Whatever slim chance that King would make his MLB debut in 2026 probably ended with that injury.
Seth Shuman may have been a great guy but he’s 28 years old. If you are 28 and still in AA, your time has come to an end.
I agree the Nats have pulled many out of the dumpster for this season’s bullpen. I’m hoping they can take care of their bullpen problem this week and make a decent trade without emptying the farm system.
Think both things are true:
– The Nats seems overly obessed with giving soft-tossing lefties (Krook, Palmquist, Parker, even Lovelady) chance after chance when they are clearly over-matched at the MLB level, rather than simply look for arms that get out (or at least sometimes get outs).
– Seth Shuman just is not an MLB talent. His K rate this season was 6.5 per 9 innings. At 28 (turns 29 this year), there is a reason why a pitcher drafted in 2019 (!) hasn’t reached the MLB level.
