Worcester vs. Rochester – CNCLD
The finale between Worcester and Rochester was canceled, which may create a situation in which the Red Wings could win the first half on percentage points as is the case right now with the Redbirds trailing by .004 (42-25, .627 vs. 43-26, .623).
Richmond 5 Harrisburg 4 (10 inn.)
• Dean 1IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 2K
• Gaston (BS, 3) 1IP, 2H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, 2K, HR
• B. Sullivan (L, 0-1) ⅔ IP, 0H, 1R, 0ER, IBB, 2K, 2HBP
• Wallace 3-4, 2HR, 2RBI, E(10)
• Lomavita 1-4, R, HR
It was a two true outcomes night for the Senators, who hit four solo HRs and struck out 14 times in a 5-4 extra-innings loss to the Flying Squirrels. Cayden Wallace went deep twice while Ethan Petry and Caleb Lomavita left the yard once. The Sens walked zero times and just three RISP chances. Billy Sullivan suffered the loss, though it was quite self-inflicted as the 27-y.o. journeyman struck out the first two batters he faced, intentionally walked the third, then hit the next two batters (unintentionally, we hope).
Greensboro 8 Wilmington 5
• Tepper (L, 0-1) 2IP, 3H, 4R, 3ER, 3BB, 3K, HR
• Bruni 3IP, 1H, 1R, 1ER, 2BB, 3K, HR
• Farmer 2-3, 2R, BB, HR, 2RBI
• Nunez 2-4, R, SB
• A. Feliz 1-4, R, BB, HR, RBI, E
Wilmington fell behind 4-0 after three and was unable to recover as they lost their third straight, 8-5. Mikey Tepper gave up all four of those runs on three hits (one HR) and three walks over two runs for the loss. Seven stolen bases were not enough to offset the woeful 1-for-12 mark with RISP as three of the Blue Rocks’ five runs came on longballs by Caleb Farmer and Angel Feliz.
Kannapolis 7 Fredericksburg 2
• Manning (L, 3-1) 2⅔ IP, 6H, 4R, 4ER, 2BB, 2K, 2WP
• Johnson 4⅓ IP, 6H, 3R, 3ER, 1BB, 6K, HR, 2-0 IR-S, PO @ 1B
• Fien 2-4, 2B
• R. Ramirez 2-4, 2B
The Cannon Ballers unleashed a fusillade of seven runs between the 2nd and 4th against which the FredNats could only muster single runs twice as Kannapolis took the series finale, 7-2 to earn a series split. Grant Manning took the loss with four runs allowed on six hits and two walks over two and 2/3rds. Fredericksburg collected 10 hits, including four doubles, but also hit into four double plays. Gavin Fien and Rafael Ramirez Jr. led the way, both going 2-for-3 with a double.
FCL Nationals, 15-14, 2nd FCL East, 7GB
The FCL Nationals won three of five but fell another game and a 1/2 behind the FCL Astros. The tragic number sits at 25 with roughly five and a 1/2 weeks left to go. This week, it’s three in West Palm Beach and three in Jupiter as the they play the F-Marlins twice, the F-Astros twice, and the F-Cards twice.
DSL Nationals, 3-7, T6th DSL South, 6GB
The D-Nats won once last week as they fell to six games off the pace. The team features the third-worst offense in the DSL but also has above-average pitching. This week, it’s home games today, Friday, and Saturday, and road games tomorrow and Thursday with an off day on Wednesday.
Was the Durham Bull in the stadium for Billy Sullivan to hit , Luke ???
How about them apples and pct points ?
I swear I must wake up in my daily routine sometimes before most canines .
The lads might be a tad tired from the last few weeks of road trips and long home stands .
Welcome back , Kotter … oops .. Wallace !
Could the Red Wings quietly overtake the FNats as our best team? The FNats have hit a bit of a rough spot, after losing their best players and just generally cooling off quite a bit. They’re now 44-19, going “only” 5-5 over their past 10. But the Red Rings are red hot, currently at 42-25. A nice “problem” to have.
It’s a bit of a surprise that the Senators are as good as they are. 7 pitchers appeared yesterday and these were their ERAs: 6.14, 5.51, 6.91, 7.06, 13.50, 5.68 and 11.81 in order of appearance. Not good.
Cayden Wallace has now played 255 games in AA. I don’t know what more he has to prove.
Now that he’s capable of playing SS, there’s not really much preventing him from getting promoted to Rochester. You could go ahead with an infield of 3B: House, SS: King, 2B: Wallace, 1B: Morales, DH: Ortiz. Then you can rest one of these 5 guys each game, then slot Lipscomb into their spot. Everyone gets 5-6 starts per week. What am I missing?
It’s been a pretty brutal start in AA for Fitz-Gerald. He was in a slump in Wilmington prior to promotion, going 1 for 24 with 9 Ks. He’s carried that with him to Harrisburg, going… 2 for 25 with 9 Ks. I guess that’s an improvement? The chasing is worrying, but it’s been coupled with a complete outage of patience, accruing only 1 BB in those past 50 plate appearances! That’s a pretty lethal combination. Bad plate discipline hasn’t ever before been an issue with him. Last season he had more BBs than Ks! I’m not sure the organization did Fitz-Gerald any favors with the timing of this promotion. Though we’ll have to see how he responds to their adversity. Everyone was raving about Fitz-Gerald’s work ethic and attitude at the time of the trade, so we’ll see how it works out.
Has anyone else noticed that they only time that we get RISP numbers in gamers is when the number is terrible? The teams must get SOME hits with RISP sometimes, but apparently when they do it’s just not newsworthy.
Noted.
