Rochester Red Wings, 31-20, 1st place I.L. East, ½ GA
Rochester is riding a nine-game win streak that has taken the Red Wings from two games behind to leading the I.L. by 1/2 a game. This morning, the series with Syracuse resumes with a late-morning game.

Reading 10 Harrisburg 1
• Lyon (L, 0-1) 4⅓ IP, 5H, 3R, 3ER, 1BB, 3K, HR
• Van Scoyoc 3IP, 7H, 5R, 5ER, 0BB, 1K, HR
• M. Brown 1-2, R, 2B
• Lomavita 2-4, 2B

The Fightins broke open a 4-1 game with six-run 8th as they pummeled the Senators in the season opener. Isaac Lyon lost his AA debut, charged with three runs on five hits (one HR) and a walk while striking out three. Harrisburg was held to six hits, including doubles by Chad Lomavita and Marcus Brown. They went 0-for-6 with RISP and left on five baserunners. Roster moves: RHPs Isaac Lyon, Josh Randall promoted from Wilmington; RHP Valentin Linarez placed on Development List.

• Meckley (L, 0-1) 2⅓ IP, 3H, 3R, 3ER, 3BB, 2K, HR, HBP
• Biven 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Bazzell 1-2, HBP
• Fitz-Gerald 1-4

Wilmington’s modest three-game win streak came to a screeching halt as the Blue Rocks were shut out, 6-0 on four hits (all singles). RXander Meckley didn’t make it out of the 3rd as the Cyclons spun him for three runs on three hits (one HR) and three walks and two strikeouts to lose his A+ debut. Kevin Bazzell was the sole Blue Rock to reach base twice as he singled in the 2nd and was hit by a pitch in the 8th. Roster moves: RHP Aaron Shortridge reasigned from the FCL.

Delmarva 5 Fredericksburg 3
• Sullivan (L, 1-2) 3IP, 3H, 4R, 4ER, 4BB, 2K, HR
• Huesman 3IP, 2H, 0R, 1BB, 4K, E
• J. Cruz 2-4, HR, 2RBI
• Dickerson 1-3, R, BB, HR, RBI, 2K

Liam Sullivan dug a 4-0 hole after three innings from which the FredNats could not climb out in a 5-3 loss to the Shorebirds. Sullivan, who has pitched more innings than runs allowed in just five of ten appearances this year, gave up three hits, walked four, and struck out two in 50 pitches and three innings. It was his second loss. All three Fredericksburg runs came via the longball, with Luke Dickerson going solo in the 1st and Juan Cruz hitting a two-run shot in the 7th. Pay no attention to the 20 strikeouts the FredNats hitters piled up with every single batter striking out at least once.

FCL Marlins 13 FCL Nationals 7
• J. Robles 4IP, 6H, 5R, 4ER, 0BB, 1K, HBP
• Frieda (L, 0-1) ⅔ IP, 6H, 5R, 5ER, 0BB, 1K
• D. Hernandez 1-3, 2RBI
• Cerkownyk 1-3, R

The FCL Nationals took advantage of three errors and eight walks to score seven times on just two hits – a single by Daniel Hernandez and a double by Brady Cerkownyk. Alas, the F-Nats pitchers threw in-game BP as the F-Marlins pounded out 15 hits, including six doubles and three triples for 13-7 win. Jean Robles went the first four and was on the hook for five runs (four earned) on six hits and a HBP. The loss went to Colby Frieda, who retired two of eight batters faced and let in five runs. Roster moves: RHPs Adam Bogosian, Noah Millikan, and L.J. Waco assigned from Washington (MLFAs).

Fun fact, if my Big board acocunting is right … The three arms just signed to the FCL now bring the total number of MLFAs signed by this team just for this season to 41. Add in another 5 waiver claims and 5 Minor league Rule5 guys and we’re talking about nearly 1/3rd of our current minor league system being completely new guys this year.

Liam Sullivan truly in rehab come back mode ..
Gavin Bruni the ultimate swing guy or just loogie “ opener “

Not a surprise, but Riley Cornelio starting today in Rochester essentially ensures that Andrew Alvarez will be taking Jake Irvin spot in the Nats rotation during his IL stint, beginning with a start this Friday against the Padres.

Also, looking like Curtis Mead is keeping the 3B spot on the Nats for the near future, while Chaparro is struggling (even with his 2 run single in the 9th). Feel like Yoyo is coming up to play 1B and Chaparro is getting DFA’d sooner rather than later.

i’m worried about House….not sure if he can ever take it to another level. i guess there is still time, but something tells me the team will eventually look elsewhere for 3B help, but Mead is making a good case for himself. I’m curious about Yoyo – very divisive player who’s time has come to prove whether he is MLB capable or not.

of course he’s 3-4 today with 2HRs. but your concern is justified. he’s never walked at a decent rate.
