Monday’s News & Notes

May 18, 2026
Rochester Won, 3-0 OFF DAY N/A
Harrisburg Won, 8-3 OFF DAY N/A
Wilmington Lost, 7-5 OFF DAY N/A
Fredericksburg Won, 6-5 OFF DAY N/A
FCL Nationals OFF DAY vs. FCL Marlins, 12pm

Rochester 3 Lehigh Valley 0
• Perales 4⅔ IP, 4H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• L. Young (W, 1-0) 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• Tolman (SV, 2) 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2k
• Chapparro 3-4, R, 2-2B, 2RBI
• Crews 2-4, 2R, 2-2B

Six Red Wings pitchers combined to shut out the IronPigs, 3-0 on six hits. Unfortunately, Luis Perales taking a line drive off his pitching arm was part of the reason as his afternoon was cut short with two out in the 5th. He did not issue a walk for the first time this season and struck out one while allowing four hits. Luke Young was credited with the “W” as the most effective reliever to follow while Erik Tolman struck out two and rolled a grounder to notch his second save. Dylan Crews and Andrés Chapparro both doubled twice while Andrew Pinckney singled twice and drove in a run to pace the Rochester offense. Roster moves: RHP Zak Kent activated; RHP Cole Henry rehab transferred from the FCL.

Harriburg 8 Altoona 3
• Kent 5IP, 2H, 0R, 1BB, 9K
• T. Schultz (BS, 4) 1⅓ P, 3H, 3R, 3ER, 1BB, 3K, 2HR
• Cranz (W, 1-0) 2⅔ IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 2K
• Lomavita 3-5, R, 2-2B, 2RBI
• Pichardo 2-4, 2R, 2B (5), BB, 3RBI
• King 2-5, R, RBI, SB(5)

Jackson Kent string together five scoreless frames while striking out a season-high of nine. He left with a 3-0 lead that Thomas Schultz blew with a two-run HR in the 6th and a solo HR in the 7th. Harrisburg got the lead back on Caleb Lomavita’s second double then piled on in the 9th for four more to take the game, 8-3 and salvage a series split. Robert Cranz got the last eight outs to pick up the win. Lomavita led the Senators hit column with three, followed by Kervin Pichardo and Seaver King with two apiece.

Winston-Salem 7 Wilmington 5
• Randall 5IP, 8H, 4R, 4ER, 2BB, 4K, HR
• B. Stuart (BS, 1; L, 0-1) 1IP, 1H, 3R, 3ER, 1BB, 2K, HR
• Y. Cabrera 2-4, 2R, 2K
• Petry 1-2, R, HR, RBI
• Dugas 1-2, R, HR, 3RBI

The Blue Rocks battled back from deficits of 2-1 and 4-3 to take a 5-4 lead in the 8th on Gavin Dugas’s first HR of the season. Baron Stuart handed over his beer and then gave the lead away on a three-run HR in bottom of the 8th to blow the save and take the loss. T.J. White and Ethan Petry also went deep while Yeremey Cabrera singled twice and scored twice to power the Wilmington offense. Roster moves: Baron Stuart reassigned from the FCL.

Fredericksburg 6 Salem 5
• Tepper 2⅔ IP, 3H, 1R, 1ER, 3BB, 3K
• Manning 2⅓ IP, 2H, 0R, 1BB, 3K, 2-0 IR-S
• Otanez (BS, 2; W, 1-1) 1IP, 0H, 2R, 2ER, 3BB, 1K
• Dickerson 0-1, 4R, 4BB
• Jones 2-4, 2B, RBI
• James 2-4, R, BB, HR(5), 2RBI

Fredricksburg and Salem combined for 19 walks as the bullpens battled to see who could pitch worse. Salem “won” by walking the bases full in the bottom of the 9th then throwing a wild pitch to lose to Fredericksburg, 6-5. That made a winner out of Johan Otanez, who walked three and gave up two in the top of the 9th for his second blown save. A dishonorable mention goes to Gus Hughes, who gave up two runs on three hits in the 8th. Coy James reached base three times on a single, homer, and a walk while Luke Dickerson led off the 9th with his fourth walk and scored the game-winning run to lead the FredNats attack.

FCL Nationals, 4-4, 2nd FCL East, 3½ GB
The F-Nats went 2-3 last week to fall to .500 and dropped two more games behind the F-Astros. With five rehab “starts” in the first eight games, there’s no discernible pattern to the pitchers, aside from eight pitchers having ERAs of 8.31 or higher and 18 pitchers having ERAs of 0.00. The offense is dead-last in the FCL East and second-worst in the league. This week, the FCL Nationals venture out of West Palm Beach for Vero Beach on Thursday and Friday and will be making up one of the rainouts on Tuesday (vs. FCL Cardinals) with games agains the FCL Marlins on Monday and Saturday.

that line drive off Perales’ arm did not look good. fingers crossed that nothing was broken.

Henry was giving up a lot of hard contact with a couple shots right back at him as well.

x-rays came back negative for a fracture on Perales’ wrist. still, I expect he’ll miss a start or two, he was in pain.

Nats bump Seaver King to AAA. Hasn’t been reported who is filling King’s spot in H’burg.

Don’t want to get ahead of things, but think there’s pretty good chance King makes it DC this season. Particularly if CJ gets dealt as many seem to believe.

Kervin Pichardo has played a lot of SS in his career, and can adequately fill in there, then you also have Marcus Brown for defensive cover. So whoever fills King’s roster spot need not be a SS. My vote would be for Ethan Petry. Harrisburg don’t really have a 1B now that Sam Brown is injured. And their corner OFs aren’t very good either (Johnathon Thomas and Leandro Pineda). So Petry would instantly be the best player at 3 different positions.

What I’ll be interested to see is if King sticks at SS. The Nats still seem loath to entertain moving Abrams to 2B, so if King has a future alongside Abrams, it seems like it will be at 2B. King’s SS defense also doesn’t appear to be much better than Abrams’ (11 E in 35 games in Hburg).

There’s also now a little bit of an infield roster crunch in Rochester. You have Chaparro at 1B, who’s gotten real hot recently. Morales at 3B. Lipscomb able to play everywhere, but mostly SS. Glasser at 2B. And Levi Jordan as the utility guy. I’d guess this spells the end for Jordan? But will Glasser get relegated to Jordan’s utility man role?
