Worcester scored in each of the first three innings to build a 4-1 lead and held on to edge Rochester, 4-3. Zach Penrod did not read the assignment and gave up two runs (one earned) as the opener on one hit and three walks. Julian Fernández did and stranded three while rolling a 4-3 groundout to escape further damage. Scheduled starter Luis Perales was as ineffective in his first two frames before settling down to finish with two runs on three hits (one HR) and two walks over six innings of relief. Dylan Crews homered with two outs in the 1st to break up the no-hitter and the shutout; Zach Short connected for an RBI double in the 5th Andrés Chapparro went deep in the 7th to account for the Red Wings three runs.
Worcester 7 Rochester 3 – GM. 2
• Cornelio (L, 2-1) 3+ IP, 4H, 5R, 5ER, 5BB, 5K, 2HR
• Chaparro 2-4, 2B,
• Jordan 1-3, R, 2B
SSDG as the (ugh) Woo Sox led from start to finish to prevail, 7-3 and sweep the doubleheader. SSDL for Riley Cornelio as the 25-y.o. walked five and gave up five runs on four hits (2HR) over three-plus innings in his first game back since his forgettable MLB debut. Andrés Chapparro and Levi Jordan both doubled while Christian “Hey It’s” Franklin both had RBI singles to power the Red Wings’ six-hit, four-walk offense. Roster moves: None. Wait. What?
Harrisburg 4 Akron 2
• Kent 3⅔ IP, 1H, 0R, 2BB, 4K
• Huff (W, 2-0) 2⅓ IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB, 1K, WP

The Senators scored in four of eight “ups” to double up the ‘Ducks, 4-2. Jackson Kent failed to pitch four full innings for the third time in four starts, needing 68 pitches to get 11 outs with one hit, two walks, and four whiffs. Chance Huff picked up his second win with two and a 1/3rd scoreless while Erick Mejia struck out five and walked two over the last two frames for his fourth save. Johnathon Thomas went 4-for-4 with a double and steal while Jack Rogers reached base three times on a double, walk, and an RBI single to lead the Harrisburg offense.
Asheville 9 Wilmington 3
• Randall (L, 2-1) 5IP, 3H, 3R, 3ER, 2BB, 5K, HR, HBP
• Fitz-Gerald 1-3, R, 2BB

• 0-13 RISP, 12 LOB
Asheville busted out for five in the 9th to which Wilmington could only reply with three as the Tourists tripled up the Blue Rocks, 9-3. Josh Randall went the first five and gave up three runs on three hits (one HR) and two walks while striking out five. Devin Fitz-Gerald reached base three times on a double and two walks while Teo Banks, Caleb Farmer, and Ethan Petry each reached base twice in a seven-hit, seven-walk output that saw zero (0) hits in 13 RISP chances.
Fredericksburg 7 Hickory 6 (10 inn.)
• Conradt 3IP, 2H, 1R, 1ER, 3BB, 2K, HR
• Manning 3IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB, 5K, HBP
• Roberts (W, 1-0) 1IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB, 1K
• J. Cruz 3-4, 2R
• Williams 2-4, R, RBI, 2K, SAC, SB
• Walsh 2-4, 2R, BB, 2RBI
The proverbial horseshoe remains firmly lodged up the FredNats [gluteal cavity] as they won their sixth straight game, 7-6 in extras. Jonah Conradt made his first start and let in one run on a home run and two hits total over three innings. He walked three and struck out two. Liam Sullivan dug the hole to 6-0 with five runs coughed up on six hits (one HR). Fredericksburg tied it with single runs in the 5th and 6th then put up four in the 7th to tie it at 6-6. Grant Manning locked it down for three frames while Jacob Roberts cordero’d out of trouble in the 10th thanks to heads-up play by Sir Jamison Jones who fielded a Baltimore chop in front of home plate and tagged the runner coming home. Like Wednesday night, the ‘Dads relievers gave it away in the 10th by hitting Jones, balking two runners into scoring position, which Fredericksburg cashed in two batters later with Jordan Williams singling off the third baseman’s glove for the game-winner.
What’s up with Jackson Kent’s usage. He was doing fine yesterday. 1 hit and 2 walks in 3 innings is no reason to pull your starter, but he’s had an unusually short leash all season. 54, 27 (where he got pulled after only one inning where he only allowed 2 hits and a run!), 62 and now 68 pitches. I get why a guy like Perales, just coming back from long term injury would be treated so carefully, but Kent isn’t. He started 24 games and threw 123 IP, and routinely threw 80-90 pitches per start.
Why would you yank a starter after allowing 3 baserunners through almost 4 innings of scoreless ball. That’s a really solid start (to a start)! Are they playing him through an injury?
according to Fangraphs he started the season on the IL with an ankle sprain.
the one inning start was due to a rain delay when both teams pulled their starters
Yeah, I think that it’s unfair to say that Kent “failed to pitch four full innings” since it’s pretty clear that it wasn’t his failure, it was a pitch limit.
It’s clear that they have a plan and a process (they yanked Sime after 62 pitches on Wednesday even though he was dominating). I have to remind myself that, just because I don’t know what their criteria are doesn’t mean that it isn’t a good process.
It’s fair because 68 pitches is a lot to get just 11 outs.
Let’s see how Lara dies versus the Worcester Sauce tonight
Does . No glasses on, Andry
You’ll be fine kid
Jacob Weaver
Austin Peay
Jonathan Thomas has to be DD seniors favorite player being such a spark plug
Speaking of Perales, a really good “opener” for him. First time he’s made it into the 5th, and past 70 pitches.
I wonder what the reasoning was to have an opener for Perales?
Wallace looks like a different player this year, hope he can keep it up.
Randall pitches entirely in the bottom of the strike zone. according to the pitch track one pitch was above the waist. he got a swinging strike on it.
the FredNats comeback was against an IFA who signed last year at the age of 26, which is unheard of. he touches 100, shocking.
So much for no transactions for Rochester – you jinxed it!
So long Zach Short – we barely knew you…..
Short term bench option
Nats trade Rochester SS Zach Short to the Tigers.
Making room for Seaver King? (and other movement of infielders?)
Jake Bennett is starting tonight for the Red Sox.
To steal from WBZ’s Bob Lobel… “Why can’t we get guys like that?”
