Worcester vs. Rochester – PPD
They pulled the plug on this by midafternoon and will tack on today’s “Careers in Sports” day for a doubleheader to make it up. Roster moves: C Harry Ford activated from T.I.L.
Akron 8 Harrisburg 3
• D. Garcia (L, 1-3) ⅓ IP, 2H, 5R, 5ER, 3BB, 0K, HR
• Van Scoyoc 2⅔ IP, 1H, 1R, 0ER, 0BB, 1K
• Lomavita 1-3, BB, 2B
• M. Brown 1-1, R, 2B, RBI
Akron (steel)belted Harrisburg starter Davian Garcia for five runs on two hits (one HR) and three walks as they rolled to an 8-3 win. Garcia was lifted after 32 pitches, 16 for strikes. Chad Lomavita walked, doubled, and went 0-for-3 throwing out basestealers while Marcus Brown pinch-hit an RBI double for the second of two hits in 11 RISP opportunities. The Senators left on 11 and mustered five hits total. Roster moves: C Kyle Hayes placed on the Developmental List.
Wilmington 11 Asheville 6
• Polanco 4IP, 6H, 3R, 3ER, 1BB, 2K, HR
• Aldonis (W, 1-0) 2IP, 2H, 2R, 1ER, 2BB, 1K
• Petry 2-4, 2R, BB, 2B, HR, 3RBI
• White 1-3, BB, 2B, RBI, SB
• Fitz-Gerald 1-3, 2R, 2BB, 2B, RBI
The Blue Rocks rallied from deficits of 1-0 and 6-4 with seven runs over the 7th and 8th innings to send the Tourists packing, 11-6. Bryan Polanco wobbled through the first four innings, giving up three runs on six hits (one HR) and a walk while striking out two. Pablo Aldonis was the pitcher of record and was credited with the win despite letting in two runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks over two innings. Ethan Petry drove in three with a solo HR in the 6th and two-run double in the 7th while T.J. White and Devin Fitz-Gerald both reached base twice on a walk and a double to lead the Wilmington offense.
Fredericksburg 1 Hickory 0 (10 inn.)
• Sime Jr. 3⅔ IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 9K
• L. Johnson 4⅓ IP, 2H, 0R, 1BB, 3K
• Olson (W, 4-0) 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Willits 1-4, BB, RBI, SB
• Moroknek 0-2, 2BB, SB, OF assist @ 2B
One day after throwing in-game BP, Fredericksburg’s relievers were on like Donkey Kong, blanking Hickry for six and a 1/3rd innings in a 1-0 extra-innings shutout. Miguel Sime Jr. tied his career high of nine whiffs with nary a walk and but two safeties in three and 2/3rds innings. The force was strong with Luke Johnson, who went the next four and 1/3ds with two hits and one walk allowed while fanning three. The Crawdads gave away the game with an ill-advised throw to third on a sacrifice bunt to open the 10th and a catcher’s interference to load the bases with one out for Eli Willits to walk ’em off with a single rocketed between third base and the third baseman. That made a winner out of Bryant Olson, who struck out two in the top of the 10th.
All hail Ronny Cruz – turning 20 in August.

Roger Craig mutters about Sime Jr from another Gaiaxy
Hummmm , Baby!
Let’s see if Polanco works his work horse ethic up to AA by July .
Fans ! I truly miss Bob Carpenter .
Some of you know exactly what I mean
WWF announcers are at the Mike now !
Clown show
+1 on this. at least with nats.tv you can opt for the radio broadcast, albeit not perfectly synced at all times
Law reported from Wilmington on Tuesday’s game:
Cruz, excellent bat speed, pitch recognition isn’t great, above-average runner, looks like he can handle shortstop, the trade looks like a steal.
Petry, shouldn’t be much longer for High A, easy, pretty right-handed swing that gets the ball in the air a ton, thinks he can handle the outfield, future regular with above-average upside if K’s don’t increase when he hits AA.
Devin Fitz-Gerald, continued his tremendous season at the plate. helps ease the blow of…
Fien having a rough start on both sides of the ball — Fien’s throwing is a mess
in a reply to readers question, Law thinks Petry can handle first base but considers it a worst case scenario
Lovely little write up on Sime Jr at Federal baseball here: thanks for that! 😉

Garcia for Sens did have a rough night. Walked first three, then double, then HR and it’s 5-0. Sens drew eight walks, but still only scored three runs.
I was at yesterday’s game in Fredericksburg. I even (loudly) told Luke to use the Force. Great minds think alike, and so do ours.
Sime was FILTHY. His fastball sat at 99 and touched 101, but his slider was better. The only two hits he gave up were weak contact. A grounder through the 5.5 hole and a swinging bunt. Both teams seemed in a hurry to beat the rain – which they did!
If Yoyo is called up, I can’t think of anyone who could be sent down. The obvious answer is Nunez but there’s no one else to play shortstop right now. So that leaves Luis Garcia, Jr., who would have to be placed on waivers and lost. So Yoyo is blocked, not by too much talent on the Nats, but lack of anyone to play SS.
They could send Tena or Weimer or even House (who was struggling until last night) down. The Nats brought up Chaparro for one game last weekend and went with 12 pitchers. That said, don’t think they bring up Yoyo unless he’s going to get frequent ABs, and that isn’t going to happen right now.
