Andry Lara tossed seven shutout innings for the second time in his career, but was rewarded with a no-decision when Paxton Schultz served up a game-tying HR in the 8th. Jackson Rutledge worked around a walk in the 9th but an error, a wild pitch, a steal, and a single in the 10th turned a 3-2 lead into a 4-2 walkoff loss for Rochester. Lara gave up two hits, walked none, and struck out nine. Yoyo Morales homered and doubled in the free runner while going 3-for-5 – one of two hits in twelve RISP chances for the Red Wings, who struck out eleven times and left on eleven. Roster moves: RHP Riley Cornelio recalled/optioned to/from Washington; C Tres Barrera activated from cold storage the Development List; C Harry Ford placed on the T.I.L.

Jackson Kent fell one out shy of notching a quality start, with one run allowed on a home run (three hits total), no walks, and seven whiffs. Ok . Let’s let Lara continue this type of QS stuff
Who gets credit for his turn around ?
I feel bad for Cornelio. Another starter used as a reliever and then sent back down. Reminds me of Rizzo and Martinez days.
Yeah, I don’t really understand why they’re bending over backwards to accommodate Mikolas at the expense of the young arms. Why not start Cornelio, give a short leash, but let him go until he starts to lose gas, then bring in Mikolas? Its Mikolas who has the least value to this club today and in the future, so why are so much deference for the worst SP in the league?
Then to make matters worse, they used an opener in Poulin and stretched him as long as possible. That’s fine on a day when you’ve got a half decent SP following him, but that wasn’t the case with thr olan always being to use Mikolas and Cornelio to share the game.
Then to triple down on the bad player management, they brought out Lovelady to relieve Mikolas… leaving Cornelio only 2 innings in the game. Very weird.
Do we really know it was bad management? Butera may be a new manager but he has loads of baseball experience for a youngster. My guess is he knows thousands of times more than we fans do. Maybe he looked at Cornelio’s pitch make up and decided he would be better as a closer than Lovelady or someone else. Butera gave Cornelius a shot. It didn’t work out. But if it did work out, there would be nothing wrong with using him that way. The guy will get other opportunities for sure.
