Monday’s News & Notes
| Team | Yesterday | Today | Pitching Matchup (’25 Stats at the Level) |
| Rochester | Lost, 4-3 | OFF DAY | N/A |
Jacksonville 4 Rochester 3
• Perales (L, 0-1) 2⅓ IP, 2H, 1R, 1ER, 3BB, 1K
• Lara 4IP, 4H, 1R, 1BB, 4K, HR
• Glasser 2-4, 2R, 2B, SB
• Adams 1-2, BB, HBP
Jacksonville got one in the 2nd and two in the 3rd to build an early 3-0 lead. A 6th-inning solo shot off Andry Lara proved to be the difference as the Jumbo Shrimp clipped the Red Wings, 4-3 in the series finale. Luis Perales got the start and was lifted after inducing a popup on his 43rd pitch of the game in the 3rd inning. He was not injured, as it would appear the Nationals will be managing his workload despite the 21-month gap between now and his UCL replacement. Perales was charged with the loss with one run let in on two hits and three walks over two and a 1/3rd innings.
Phillip Glasser led the seven-hit assault with a single and a double and scored twice. After 18 walks on Friday and Saturday, Rochester only drew four walks and was 3-for-7 with RISP. The next HR by the Red Wings will be the first of the ’26 season, as they are tied with the Bison for the least HRs thus far. Roster moves: 1B Andrés Chapparro optioned from Washington.
Shall we read anything into Lara stretching out to 4 frames anything besides just stretching the game ?
Just caddying for a starting pitcher who’s on a low pitch count (or low within-innings pitch count), I think. With a 16-man pitching staff in AAA, you can have “first” and “second” starters. (That’s not to say that Lara won’t be eating any MLB innings this year).
Did we ever find out the medical situation for Alejandro Rosario? Did he finally get his surgery, and was the reason for teh delay ever made public or even rumored)?
Yes, he got it ~February 1 and we learned about it when the Nats put him on the full-season I.L.
These look new to me:
03/26/26 Fredericksburg Nationals released RHP Victor Farias.
03/26/26 Fredericksburg Nationals released RHP Andy Luis.
03/26/26 Harrisburg Senators released 3B Murphy Stehly.
03/26/26 Wilmington Blue Rocks released SS Armando Cruz.
Stehly had a >900 OPS in 184 PA last year but got hurt.
Armando Cruz got 3.9M to sign, which tied for top dollars for a Nats international signing until Vaquero came along.
I had Viandel Pena’s release in a previous post. He was a long timer. I saw him at several different levels – he was tiny.
Another expensive IFA bites the dust…..sigh….
I honestly don’t know what the hell happened to our international scouting. DiPuglia and his staff were at one point highly regarded and our only saving grace but the last half of their reign they absolutely crapped the bed.
And it’s not like they were financially handcuffed….
For the amount of money they spent and for almost all of them to bust is pathetic.
Does anyone have anymore insight on what happened? I know there was some backstory to why Rizzo apparently unceremoniously fired DiPuglia but I can’t remember. And why most of the signings were only out of the Dominican Republic …
