Rochester Red Wings, 25-32, 8th I.L. East, 14GB – 52-77 Overall
With the new rules about September call-ups, it’s difficult to tell if Andrew Alvarez is up to stay or if he’s merely the latest spot starter covering an injury. Last week, Rochester took four of six from Jacksonville to move up to 8th place. This week, the Red Wings be visiting Nashville for six against the Sounds. Roster moves: LHP Andrew Alvarez, SS Nasim Nuñez recalled to Washington.
Harrisburg Senators, 30-27, T3rd E.L. Southwest, 3GB – 64-62 Overall
After getting within a game of 1st place in the second half, the Senators fell back to three behind with 12 to play with a 2-4 mark against the Curve, including two 8-0 shutouts. Tied-for-third-place Harrisburg heads back out on the road this week for six against last-place Chesapeake.
Wilmington Blue Rocks, 23-37, 6th Sally Lg. North, 18GB – 53-72 Overall
Wilmington beat the O/Us with two wins and 14 runs in six games against Greensboro last week. The Blue Rocks close out the season this week at home against the IronBirds in a bid to avoid finishing with the worst overall record in the division (the Tourists have a two-game lead on them for worst in the league).
Fredericksburg Nationals, 30-26, 1st C.L. North, 2GA – 61-61 Overall
The FredNats dropped four of seven against the Hillcats, but saw their lead over both Lynchburg and Fayetteville increased to two games with seven games to play (six for the Woodpeckers). The magic number is six for Fredericksburg, eight for Fayetteville, and ten for Carolina, with the FredNats having three fewer losses than the Mudcats and four fewer than the Woodpeckers.
Major props to Andrew Alvarez, who gave up one hit and no runs over five innings and got an MLB win.
First Nationals pitcher to win on his debut since Stephen Strasburg!
Oops, read the Post article too quickly. Second* pitcher since Strasburg. Parker also won on his debut.
that’s the only way you’re going to get a win with the way that lineup is hitting.
Lile has once again demonstrated a consistent improvement when promoted to a new level, though defensively limited to LF.
