Christian “Hey It’s” Franklin’s two-out, two-run single turned a 5-4 deficit into a 6-5 lead that (*gasp*) the Red Wings bullpen held to take a 2-0 series lead over the Jumbo Shrimp. Bryce Conley gave up the first four Jacksonville runs on nine hits over the first five innings. The fifth run was let in by Julian Fernández who was credited with the win despite giving up the go-ahead run in the 8th. Eduardo Salazar worked around a two-out double in the 9th to get the save. Franklin drove in three total while Darren Baker and Yoyo Morales both singled and doubled to power the Rochester offense. Roster moves: C Brady Lindsly taken out of cold storage activated from Developmental List; RHP Seth Shuman placed on the 7-Day I.L.

Chance Huff got the “W” with five outs, one walk, and one whiff. Wallace singled, doubled, and homered and hit a sac fly while Kevin Made singled once and doubled twice to lead the Sens offense.
Greensboro 5 Wilmington 0
• Swan (L, 0-3) 5IP, 2H, 3R, 3ER, 4BB, 7K, HR, PO @ 1B
• M. Brown 1-3

The Grasshoppers shut out the Blue Rocks on two (2) hits, 5-0. Eriq Swan gave up three runs on two hits (one HR) and four walks while striking out seven over five innings to lose his third start for the Nats’ High-A affiliate. Cortland Lawson ended the no-hitter with a two-out single in the 4th. Marcus Brown added another safety in the 8th to round out the Wilmington fusillade. Elijah Nunez and Jeremy De La Rosa also drew walks while Brown and Juan Yepez were the only two Wilmington bat-holders not to strike out on a 15-whiff night. Roster moves: C Matt Suggs assigned from Harrisburg for MiLB rehab.
Lynchburg 3 Fredericksburg 1 – GM. 1
• Solesky 3IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 1K

Fredericksburg did not throw the shutout needed for the one run they mustered as they dropped their fourth straight, 3-1 to Lynchburg. Chase Solesky tossed three scoreless innings in his first appearance since August 2nd with one hit, no walks, and one whiff. Owen Puk gave up two runs on three hits (one HR) and two walks over two innings to lose his first game in his second professional appearance. Brenner Cox doubled twice and scored ahead of the first of two Kevin Bazzell singles. The rest of the lineup went 1-for-19 (Eli Willits).
Fredericksburg 3 Lynchburg 2 – GM. 2
• B. Romero 3⅓ IP, 3H, 2R, 2ER, 5BB, 4K
• Roman 3IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Baldo (W, 7-2) 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• Cox 1-3, 2B, BB, RBI
• Peoples 1-4, RBI
The FredNats ended their losing skid with a 3-2 win in the nightcap. Brayan Romero walked five of 17 batters faced and allowed both Hillcats runs on three hits over three and a 1/3rd innings. Merrick Baldo followed three scoreless innings by Angel Roman with a goose egg in the 9th to get credit for the win. Nick “Power to the” Peoples singled in Luke Dickerson to lead off the 9th after the latter took advantage of the Hillcats trotting out a position player lobbing 60mph fatballs (not a typo) to steal third. Roster moves: RHP Chase Solesky assigned from Rochester for MiLB rehab.
Weird. Was the plan for the catching situation in Wilmington to just make space for Matt Suggs?
It’s brutal that CJ Stubbs, hitting .148/.279/.240 this season is the best we have to offer to replace Millas… and even after drafting 7 catchers in the past 3 drafts, the pipeline lower down isn’t looking much better.
After a rough introduction to AAA, Yoyo is now hitting .293/.373/.494 since July 1st (43 games). I didn’t have it on the cards, but could we see him get a September call up? Doubtful, because Cairo can’t even seem to find playing time for Chaparro, who’s batting .308/.438/.615 in only 3 starts since he was promoted 9 games ago. But it’s extremely important to give Bell a showcase for his impending free agency, and ride his hot bat of .190/.250/.333 since Chaparro’s promotion.
Lastly, Wallace. Wow. I’ve rarely seen a hot streak this hot. He’s hitting .500 (27 for 54) over his past 14 games. His OPS now sits at a respectable .687 (above league average!) on the season, after being .114 points lower just 16 days ago.
As a potential Rule 5 pick this December, Wallace is making a late push to compel the Nats to add him to the roster. Still not sure the Nats will find a spot for Wallace on the 40 man roster given how poorly Wallace played until recent weeks, but perhaps that changes if Wallace keep this torrid pace going.
The season winding down .
We are commenting on the catchers who are a mixed bag of M&Ms
Then we have Sthele working more IPs to stay ahead of logged IP for Alvarez
Since I was rough on the Sens yesterday, I have to give them credit today. Complete effort in all phases last night. Lomavito made perfect throw on his first AA steal attempt.
Chance Huff has been nails lately, nothing but strikeouts and ground balls.
Fred MD
I’ve noticed that in my FNB visits . Bullpen jeeel for the next evolved bullpen for next skipper of next GM
lol
How did Bennett look? I love no walks, but two hits per inning is a lot. Were they hit hard or was it just bad luck?
Also, he was pulled mid-inning. Was that just his pitch count or did anything happen?
Thanks!
He was pulled mid inning. I think it was a pitch count issue, but I’m not sure. A couple of the hits were great bunts by Altoona.
Let’s see . Clemney tonight . Making Tolman or bullpen committee on Saturday ?
