The Red Wings homered three times and scored in four consecutive innings in a 14-3 demolition of Syracuse. Riley Cornelio recovered from the shock of having eight runs to work with to earn his first AAA win with all three Mets runs allowed on four hit (one HR) over six-plus innings. He walked none and struck out one. Christian “Hey It’s” Franklin led the Rochester hit column with two singles and a double while Nick Schnell (17), Jackson Cluff (9), and Andrés Chaparro (13) each went deep.
Harrisburg 4 Hartford 2

Newcomer Sam Brown homered to break a 1-1 tie in the 7th as Harrisburg went on to double up Hartford, 4-2. Jarlin Susana pitched five full innings for the first time since April, allowing one run on one hit and two walks while striking out nine. Chance Huff picked up his second win in relief while Junior Santos stranded a runner getting out of the 8th and cordero’d around a single and a walk in the 9th to earn the save. Matt Suggs singled and doubled while Carlos De La Cruz and Delino DeShields Jr. both doubled to lead the Sens offense.
Jersey Shore 2 Wilmington 1 – SUSP, Top 3rd
• Aldonis 2IP, 2H, 2R, 2ER, 1BB, 1K
• Nunez 1-1, R, 3B

The Blue Rocks and BlueClaws got in two innings before rain ended the night. They’ll finish this one this afternoon then play a seven-inning game tonight.
Salem 3 Fredericksburg 1 – SUSP, Bot. 5
• Polanco 2⅔ IP, 7H, 3R, 3ER, 0BB, 3K
• Cooper 1-2, 2B
• Hollifield 0-1, SF, RBI
Salem fell two outs shy of getting the rain-shortened win as the umpires called for the tarp with one out in the bottom of the 5th and then called it 40 minutes later. They’ll finish this one then play the regularly scheduled game tonight.
Really impressive start from Franklin. He’s now hitting .367/.472/.500 for the Red Wings. Schnell has cooled off in recent days, but he too is hitting .286/.360/.576 in AAA. Both Franklin and Schnell are R5 eligible (Schnell could elect free agency), and would need to be added to the 40 man so as to not lose them this winter. I wonder how they’re going to handle this, in addition to the present roster crunch between Wood, Crews, Hassell, Young and Lile. Can we carry 7 OFs on the 40 man?
It’s also been announced that today Crews will be reinstated to DC.
when they acquired Franklin I thought they basically picked up another Pinckney. both appear to be legit pieces as fourth outfielders. Schnell just swings for the fences and got hot a while back, I wouldn’t lose any sleep over losing him.
if I had to bet, I say they return Hassell to AAA, not that I would do that. I would like to see the four get regular playing time and in a consistent lineup. the current 25 man roster makes this difficult.
Let’s see if Alvarez follows the trend this week as system starters reaching 5-6 IP
Would be cool to see his ERA fall under 4
Luke or Fred MD
What is Sales out pitch ?
7 Ks versus Salem so far
Lara
Choi
Adon
Shuman
All flipped to bullpen roles
How much did they pay for Lara ?
Bravo Alvarez nice outing vs good Cuse offense
Lara was 3.5 million clams ?
1.25M according to Todd’s site
Both Franklin and Schnell are 25 (Schnell a few months younger). Over a full season, Schnell’s numbers are better. Both have banged the ball this year. And it’s hard to project what the youngsters already in MLB will really do. Can we truly say there’s an OF surplus?
Here’s how Susana gave up his one run. With one out and a runner on second, Hartford hit a fly ball to CF DeShields. He catches it, but turns around like he’s going to throw it in the stands as he thinks it’s the third out. Runner scores all the way from second before he throws it back towards infield.
The biometric pressure and full moon effects from days ago strong still , Delino Jr
Interesting Randell and Ssles toe the rubber same night for two different affiliates
Interesting with the lumber in flux at Fred how many more ABs Nick Power to the Peoples gets from here on out .
Muggy morning here .
Following Oh Susanna is sort of like following Floyd Youmanns back in the day
Is he five inning guy or can he stretch it out
Peoples, Cox and Green all below the Mondoza line in full season ball. at least Vaquero has shown some signs of life this year.
Woah. That’s bad. Makes Susana’s outing all the more impressive!
It’s that kind of thing that makes minor-league stats so hard to judge sometimes.
that was a weird play, watching the replay the runner appeared to be confused as well. he was jogging to third until he shifted into high gear.
not good for junior
I bet that he heard about that one
A couple of transactions that I haven’t seen here.
Tyler Baca released.
Tyler Yankosky retired.
I remember when Yankosky was having some success but then he got hurt.
MLB snuck those in and I updated Tuesday’s post…
Nats DFA Nathaniel Lowe when activating Dylan Crews.
That means Bell to 1B (yikes), and the DH spot is open to keep 4 of Wood, Crews, Hassell, Lile and Young in the lineup everyday. If you like playing prospects, got to love this move.
In Lowe’s last game for the Nats, he hits a grandslam.
Wow. Didn’t expect that. But it kind creates one problem to avoid another.
Can Lile play 1B? Seriously. He’s been dreadful in the outfield, and so is Bell at 1B. It’s worth a shot, and would give the team some added flexibility.
Lile is 5-11 (may be exaggerated; could be shorter). That typically excludes a prospect from 1st base. Lile’s OF defense at the MLB level has been poor, but the sample size is small. What was his defensive rep as a minor league player. He has the tools to at least be an average MLB OF.
Wood has the frame for 1st base, but his OF defense this season has been surprisingly strong. So, not sure the Nats should mess with that.
Perhaps, the Nats should go full on prospects and DFA Bell for Yo Yo…
my guess is DeJong takes infield with a first baseman’s mitt today.
DeJong is playing SS. Guessing that’s because Luzardo is a lefty, but who knows?
As noted on Talk Nats, Nick Schnell played 1B last year in the Rays organization, but he’s a lefty.
