Francisco Mejia is a super interesting pick up. He’s basically the 2010s version of Keibert Ruiz. A top 20 catching prospect, who just couldn’t translate his success in the minors to the majors (both with the bad and glove). Mejia has ALWAYS been good in the minors, but his major league career of 1.2 WAR in 355 games played demonstrates his limitations (interestingly, it’s better than Ruiz’s 0.3 career WAR in 474 games…)
Unfortunately, Mejia is also a well below average defensive catcher, otherwise, he could be that steady veteran presence that we’ve needed for a long time now.
Really pleased to see Ribalta back in action. That biceps issue kept him out way longer than I expected. There’s still some low hanging fruit to be plucked and tossed from the bullpen, so hope his rehab is quick!
Speaking of injuries, Zuckerman is reporting Sykora is dealing with a triceps injury and he’ll be shut down for 2-3 weeks… this is inconsistent with Harrisburgers reporting that Sykora was limping suggesting some sort of recurrence to his hip injury that kept him out earlier in the season, or some other leg injury. What’s going on here?
While on the topic of rehabs, in the lower levels, Agostini and Aldonis and doing extremely well in their returns from injury. Agostini is sporting a 2.89 ERA, even while he still seems to be working on his command. Aldonis has been even better, with a minuscule 0.43 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 26 K in 21 IP. Missing 2 whole seasons has set his development schedule back, and at age 23, he’s earned a promotion to Wilmington.
I recall many years ago there was discussion of trading Robles for Mejia—this was after Ramos left but before Suzuki/Gomes.
Meijia must have a connection with some in the Latin scouting department . He must be looked at as a teacher , coach , future skipper or scout
Welcome to the org , Ranger Sarit . Great name
One reaction to Cavilli in Rochester last night . Dense full moon energy to pitch in .
FredMD your take on the young OF @ Fred named Barbieri ??
Elijah Green two hits under the sun in complex and no Ks
Porto-rrreal!
Lunar moon off last start .
Also, not a good look rushing Ruiz back from his concussion, especially with the season he’s been having.
With Rizzo and Davey gone, will Millas FINALLY get a fair shot at some regular time behind the plate? Despite sitting on the major league roster for 116 days, he’s only started 3 games in a row once (in 2023) and two games in a row twice!
Solesky under the sun today .
Schnell scchwinging!
Ribalta hit 96 on the gun. As for Sykora, he was limping Tuesday, but didn’t appear to be limping last night. When he pitched on Saturday I noticed he was throwing more breaking balls than fastballs. Maybe it was an arm issue per Zuckerman.
Thanks as always for the first hand info!
You are welcome. It was Sunday he was limping, not Tuesday (last night). My mistake.
while Cortesia is making all the headlines in the DSL, how about the start of the season for Marconi German. currently leading the team in PAs, Runs, HRs, RBIs, SBs, BBs and HBP s (11!, yikes).
a 400K signing he seems to be something.
Marconi plays the mamba listen to the radio …
Guess Cavalli’s recent implosion means Ogasawara is getting some additional starts…. Terrific.
