DSL Nationals Won, 5-4 @ DSL Phillies White, 11am

Rochester Red Wings, 1-5, T9th I.L. East, 4GB – 28-50 Overall
SSDH for Rochester as they opened the second half with one win against Syrcause. This week, it’s a split six-game series with the Red Wings visiting the Bison today, tomorrow, and Thursday and Rochester hosting Buffalo over the weekend with a day game on Sunday.

Harrisburg Senators, 2-4, T4th E.L. Southwest, 3GB – 36-39 Overall
The Senators won two against the RuuberDucks, highlighted by a near no-no on Friday. Harrisburg visits Altoona for three before coming home for the 4th of July to host the Curve.

Wilmington, 4-5, T3rd Sally Lg. North, 3GB – 34-40 Overall
Wilmington took four of six from Hudson Valley and are riding a three-game win streak as they head for the Jersey Shore today, Wednesday, and Thursday. The Blue Rocks host the BlueClaws over the weekend.

Fredericksburg Nationals, 5-4, 2nd C.L. North, 2GB – 35-39 Overall
The FredNats split the series with the Cannon Ballers to remain above .500 in the second half. Like the rest of the Washington affiliates, they’ll be home for the 4th of July weekend.

DSL Nationals 5 DSL Arizona Black 4
• Reyes 4⅓ IP, 4H, 3R, 3ER, 4BB, 4K
• Manzueta (W, 1-0) 2IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB, 0K, PO @ 1B
• N. De La Cruz 4-5, R, 2B, 2RBI, OF assist @ 3B
• Cortesia 2-4, RBI, CS, HBP

In a game that featured seven lead changes, it was the last one—in the bottom of the 9th, natch—that put the DSL Nationals on top, 5-4 to walk off the DSL Ariona Black. Juan Reyes got the start and pitched into the 5th, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks in a no-decision. After falling behind 4-3, the D-Nats loaded the bases in the 9th on two singles and a walk. Brayan Cortesia was hit by a pitch to get the Homer Simpson RBI to tie the game and Nauris De Lacruz plated the game-winner on his fourth hit of the game. That made a winner out of Anyel Manzueta, who put up goose eggs (huevos da gansos?) in the 8th and 9th. Roster moves: RHP Julio Chivilli assigned from Washington (IFA signed on 6/25).

SYKORA, GRISSOM ADDED TO FUTURES GAME ROSTER

Travis Sykora and Marquis Grissom Jr. have been selected to Futures Game that will be held on July 12 ahead of All-Star Break. Sykora, currently #1 on the MLB Top 30, is one of 31 of MLB’s Top 100 on the two rosters for the A.L. and N.L. Grissom is one of the 19 not on the top 100. The game is slated for Saturday, July 12 on the MLB Network.

Cortesia, the Nats’ top IFA signing, is living up to the hype. After missing a good chunk of time to an apparent injury, he’s batting .500/.545/.600 through 6 games.

In general, it’s so refreshing that this DSL Nats team is not another historically bad one. The team’s OPS has jumped from .679 last year (and even worse – .555 the year before!!!) to .775 this year. .775 still isn’t great, but comfortably in the top 3rd of the DSL.

The pitching staff is also above average (4.90 ERA vs league average of 5.34).

But it bears repeating that the Nats are one of only 7 teams to only field one DSL team, meaning our talent isn’t dispersed across two rosters.

I’d like to see the organization get one team right before expanding their task.

totally agree that Cortesian is a welcome change from seeing our highest paid prospects struggle

these eyes will be on Lara tonight and hoping to see something positive. Altoona has one of the better MiLBtv productions as a bonus, giving pitch velocity on screen.
