Transaction Update
Still waiting for the regular season to start. Over the weekend, the Nats made a few more moves…
● LHP Colin Poche added to 40-man roster
● LHP Shinnosuke Ogasawara optioned to Rochester
● C Drew Millas optioned to Rochester
● SS Nasim Nuñez optioned to Rochester
● RHP Camilo Sanchez placed on Fredericksburg’s 60-day I.L.
I’m still expecting a series of releases later this week as the Nats pare down to the regular-season limits for the domestic minors.
DJ Herz moved to the IL. Sprained elbow ligament. Let’s not read anything into that.
FWIW, this is why the Nats needed to build some pitching depth by retaining Trevor Williams and adding Soroka. Would have been negligent to go into the season assuming that the Nats’ starters could go through the season with no significant injuries.
How many guys have had a sprained UCL and not had to get it operated on?
TJ surgery recommended. We likely won’t see DJ again until late 2026 or 2027. Bummer.
and there it is, Brad Lord makes the opening day roster! this is a great development for the young man and I wish him all the best. he’s earned it!
Definitely! Very pleased for him.
I still hold out hope he may have a future in the rotation. And I’m a bit perplexed why Lord, of all players, was the first they didn’t convert to relief 3 seasons too late, but rather a season or two too early. But hope he seizes the opportunity! Even if not, he’ll forever get to say he was a major league baseball player. Quite an accomplishment no matter what happens for an 18th rounder!!
That’s a good way to put it about Lord — a season too early. He had yet to falter as a starter, so why switch him now?
That said, Lord may already be one of the best relievers among a very suspect relief corps. They kept him out of necessity. It will be interesting to see if they use him in multi-inning roles at times.
