Quietly overlooked is how good the Nats’ relievers have been this Spring.
Gsellman, a solid bet for making OD roster, with a 1.00 ERA in 9 innings, just got reassigned. That’s because the others:
Bleier: 1.89 ERA
La Sorsa: 1.17
Harvey: 2.84
Jacob Barnes: 1.13
Law: 0.00
Rainey: 4.26
Weems: 2.70
Finnegan: 0.00
Matt Barnes: 0.00
Ferrer: 0.00 (strangely only thrown in 3 games to date. Did he get injured?)
And then Dylan Floro just returned after an unspecified injury to start ST, and technically Robert Garcia (6.75 ERA) is also still in the picture.
Rainey has been easily the shakiest of the remaining, but he’s out of options, so he’ll make the roster. But it’ll be interesting to see who else does. Hope those who don’t see the writing on the wall and stick around, because it likely won’t be long until they’re called upon again.
Yes, Gsellman must be wondering what more they wanted him to do. His numbers are spectacular.
Rutledge’s also were good, all in all. For whatever reason, the fix was in for Trevor Williams to remain a starter. As I’ve said, I don’t know for sure if Rutledge can make it as an MLB starter, but this is the season to find out. We already know that Williams isn’t.
Yes, Ferrer is on the injured list. It’s a strained muscle that I don’t know anything about.
Mistake on Rutledge. Why can’t this team move on to the young pitchers? So frustrating. Corbin should not be a starter, I don’t care how long he’s been here or what he did in 2019.
