He struck out six. Hobie Harris stranded two while getting the last out of the 6th and the first two out of the 7th. He would pick up the win after Matt Adams’s 9th HR turned a 5-4 deficit into a 7-5 lead. Nick Pogue let in the winning run on two singles, a walk, and a sac fly in the 7th to wear the “L.” Jordy Barley and Jared McKenzie were the only two Wilmington batters to reach base twice as the Blue Rocks tallied six hits and two walks and went 0-for-10 with RISP. Surprised to see Troop get named to the Development List, which tends to be the first step towards a release. I’ll never understand the Nationals’ handling of him. Have a look at these splits:
    2017
    SP: 3.75 ERA
    RP: 2.75 ERA

    2018
    SP: 6.23 ERA
    RP: 0.00 ERA (1 G)

    2019
    SP: 0.00 ERA (3 G)
    RP: 2.18 ERA

    2021
    SP: 5.45 ERA
    RP: 2.08 ERA

    2022
    SP: 5.34 ERA
    RP: 2.92 ERA

    2023
    SP: 4.66 ERA
    RP: no data

Are you guys seeing a trend here?

And yet, year after year, Troop gets jerked back and forth between the bullpen and rotation despite clearly having success only in the former.

      Same with Omar
      Gabriel Estrada interesting story
Picked up on release from Rox
      Hasn’t pitched since 2016 or so .
Bummer to see three guys hit the 60 day DL on the island DR.

Speaking of pitchers missing in action (Alfonso Hernandez still is yet to appear as noted by Fred yesterday), Tim Cate’s extended absence has also been finally explained. Cate hadn’t appeared since May 20. I have no idea how it took 18 days to decide to put him on the 7 day IL…

You know who else hasn’t appeared since May 20? Matt Cronin. Still no formal indication he’s injured, but you have to assume he is. Still, I cannot understand how weeks can go by without any formal moves. Aren’t there roster limits that need to be adhered to?

Speaking of Cronin, he and Ferrer have been major disappointments so far this season. After looking poised to break into the team via Spring Training, they’ve struggled mightily in Rochester. The Nats bullpen, after a strong start, has turned into the pumpkin we all expected. Since May 1, the bullpen has a 4th worst 5.20 ERA, but an even worse 5.79 FIP (the worst by a considerable margin). And now Jordan Weems and his career 5.55 ERA comes to the rescue. Unfortunately, neither Ferrer nor Cronin appear more deserving than Weems.

I hope the recent pitching promotions keep coming, and this (relative) glut of arms we have between Wilmington and Harrisburg can get to Rochester sooner than later.

Second decent start in a row for Adon. I still have my fingers crossed for him, keep reminding folks that he’s just in his age-24 season.

Excellent beginning for Bennett at the A+ level.

Two more hits for House, now at .320. Definitely time for him to be on the escalator as well. Three hits for Lawson, now at .310.

Bennett cruised through the first three, facing the minimum and throwing strikes. 20 of his 80 pitches came in the fourth and he finished okay in the fifth. only one ball hit hard all night. agree that it was a good A+ debut

I suspect we’re about to have another spot on the 40-man available as I fully expect Erasmo to get DFA’d today.

I assume one of the open spots will go to Doo, but it’ll be interesting to see who gets the other one. (Willingham? Cate?)

Hey Luke … where are you getting DSL transactions? I can’t even find a roster for them right now to update the big board.

    I’m guessing its this link?
    https://www.milb.com/rochester/roster/transactions/washington-nationals

But what’s odd is that MILB.com seems to have erased all the past roster links for DSL teams.

https://www.milb.com/dominican-summer/roster/1270 is the link for the roster.

https://www.milb.com/stats/dsl-nationals is the link for the team stats

I haven’t been able to find past links for teams on MiLB.com — I usually to go to baseball-reference.com
