Millais a depth piece in catching corp .
Yasel might just hit the Harrisburg Sens into a playoff contention next year with Hassel
Operation Looking Glass , Alice
while Pineda has jumped him on the prospect ladder, Millas is the best of the catcher corps defensively.
personally, I prefer my backups to be strong defensively. of course they can’t be total dead weight at the plate, but their job is to give the starter a day off and not lose the game.
if Millas can fill that role that leaves Pineda to be of value as trade bait. no way he will supplant Ruiz.
I hope Frizzell and Baker have made up some good cheers, as that’s the only “experience” that they’re getting. What a waste. No offense to Millas and Antuna, who both have done some good things with their opportunities, they’re not high-level priorities for the organization right now. In fact, if you’re going to lift Antuna for a defensive replacement, I’d rather Frizzell be getting those reps in LF. (Frizzell played 22 games in RF for Texas A&M so perhaps has a decent arm?)
Antuna, who turns 23 next week, has entered that “objects in your mirror may be closer than they appear” phase of his career with all the OFs the Nats have added to the system. It certainly would be great if he finds something and turns into that prospect that he’s been projected to be, but it’s also possible that he’s on the Harrisburg bench by the end of next summer if/when guys like Wood, de la Rosa, McKenzie, and/or White get promoted.
Why is Antuna still on the Nats 40 man roster?
That’s a good question.
Remember that time Mike Rizzo admitted he made a mistake? Me neither.
