AFL Update: Oct. 18, 2022
The Scorpions broke a 1-1 tie with three in the 2nd and added two more in the 4th as they handed the Javelinas their fifth loss in their last six games, 6-4.
Three Nationals appeared in the game:
- Drew Millas batted sixth and went 1-for-4 with a double, his third of the fall. He threw out two of five basestealers and was caught himself while trying to steal home in the 9th; no word on whether Victor Robles was coaching third base.
- Yasel Antuna batted eighth and had his third double while drawing his seventh walk in six games. He was lifted for a defensive replacement in the top of of the 7th.
- Lucas Knowles go the last out of the 2nd, stranding two, and retired the side in order in the 3rd. He struck out one and lowered his Fall ERA to 7.11 in five appearances.
The Javelinas (7-6) remain home this afternoon to host the Sagauros (7-5).

Millais a depth piece in catching corp .
Yasel might just hit the Harrisburg Sens into a playoff contention next year with Hassel

while Pineda has jumped him on the prospect ladder, Millas is the best of the catcher corps defensively.
personally, I prefer my backups to be strong defensively. of course they can’t be total dead weight at the plate, but their job is to give the starter a day off and not lose the game.
if Millas can fill that role that leaves Pineda to be of value as trade bait. no way he will supplant Ruiz.
I hope Frizzell and Baker have made up some good cheers, as that’s the only “experience” that they’re getting. What a waste. No offense to Millas and Antuna, who both have done some good things with their opportunities, they’re not high-level priorities for the organization right now. In fact, if you’re going to lift Antuna for a defensive replacement, I’d rather Frizzell be getting those reps in LF. (Frizzell played 22 games in RF for Texas A&M so perhaps has a decent arm?)
Antuna, who turns 23 next week, has entered that “objects in your mirror may be closer than they appear” phase of his career with all the OFs the Nats have added to the system. It certainly would be great if he finds something and turns into that prospect that he’s been projected to be, but it’s also possible that he’s on the Harrisburg bench by the end of next summer if/when guys like Wood, de la Rosa, McKenzie, and/or White get promoted.
Why is Antuna still on the Nats 40 man roster?
That’s a good question.
Remember that time Mike Rizzo admitted he made a mistake? Me neither.
