Tuesday’s News & Notes
Team | Yesterday | Today | Pitching Probables |
Rochester | Lost, 6-1 (6 inn.) | vs. Worcester, 6:05 p.m. | Adon (2-2, 4.34) vs. Murphy (3-6, 5.17) |
Worcester 6 Rochester 1
• Gore (L, 0-1) 3⅔ IP, 6H, 6R, 6ER, 1BB, 3K, 3HR, WP
• T. Romero 1⅓ IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 1K
• Alu 2-2, R, 2B(15)
• Vega 1-2
MacKenzie Gore was roughed up for all six runs in a rain-shortened 6-1 Rochester loss to Worcester. Gore nearly gave up the cycle—missing the single—plus two more HRs while walking one and striking out three over three and 2/3rds innings for his first Red Wings loss. The hits keep coming for Jake Alu, who connected for two including his 15th double while Andrew Stevenson had hit #151 which is the most for a Rochester player since 2015 and the most in Stevenson’s seven years in the minors (H/T Red Wings PR).
Souldrummer yesterday asked where best to find Jim Callis’s analysis of the Nats system. It’s on a podcast called Nats Insider and hosted by Dan Kolko and runs 27 minutes.
The best places to find it are Spotify, Stitcher, and Apple. Well worth your time.
Another bad outing by MacKenzie Gore. Callis did talk about how he has really lost his mechanics.
Running out of superlatives to talk about Alu. Just great. Congrats to Andrew Stevenson.
Very bad outing. All 6 of those hits allowed were for extra bases (3 HR, 2 2B and 1 3B). Yikes.
And indeed, can’t say much more than I’ve already said about Alu. I’ll just let his stats speak for themselves.
In AAA: .321/.371/.557
In September: .410/.444/.783
During his 13 game hit streak: .451/.482/.843
Amazing.
I had a feeling Joan would lower his ERA under 4 today .
Carnak had a read on a good outing . Granted the last whispers of the season for all..before the birds fly south even Red Wings ..
Gore might need Spin Williams in a de tente??
he looked fine to me, it’s a rehab start. he could have been a little sharper with his breaking pitches but he threw mostly fastballs, maybe by plan. they ran into a few of them. if he makes a start in DC, goes into the off season without injury concerns all is good.
1 inning done in
Gore last night
Adon tonight
In a column yesterday Jim Callis had this to say about Jared McKenzie.
“After batting .389 in his first two seasons at Baylor, McKenzie slumped in the Cape Cod League last summer and back with the Bears this spring. He snapped out of it in his pro debut, batting .400/.425/.614 with 10 extra-base hits and 11 steals in as many attempts in 17 Single-A games.”
I listened to the entire podcast last night, again I appreciate the heads up from Mark. what I took away from Callis’ comments are below. there was a lot of info, not sure whether talking fast is a requirement for scouts but if so, this guy is king!
Abrams can be a top of the lineup .300+ hitter, initially not sure if he was a shortstop or center fielder but early report look good at SS
Wood has the highest ceiling of the Soto bounty, Hassell the highest floor
Green has the absolute highest ceiling from the ’22 draft. yes he faced some contact issues in his senior year but it’s not like he was facing your average high school competition, AMG plays in an elite league. the first two picks were the best two players.
MacKenzie had profiled as a 2nd round pick before his last year in college
Bennett is a very polished pitcher
Bremmer Cox has a very high upside
Henry was the most polished/talented pitcher in the Nats system
and lastly, all of these guys won’t make it. that’s just how hard it is
Henry WAS
Bennett .
Cox being out pressered by the Padre haul of bats .
good pull from my comment, I had not consciously typed that!
I agree with Wood having the highest ceiling, and I think he’ll probably be #1 on my Top Bats list. I do wonder what his ultimate position will be, although he’s said to be amazingly mobile for his size.
It occurs to me that the trade bounty should (I hope) help both Green and House by taking some of the spotlight and pressure off of them. With Hassell and Wood ahead of him in the queue, there should be little pressure/rush for Green. I have compared him to Buxton, and a huge problem Buxton and others have had is impatience by their organizations, rushing them through the system and to the majors before they’re ready.
Hood a big mentor for Green in the chain ??
KW
As you typed that the news came over about Buxton knee surgery .
Could we see a Senators 23 OF of Hassell , Antuna , Connell and DeLaRosa
@ some point ?
Strohs and Mendoza might need powerful healing stones to raise their vibrations
